Mcdevito75 here, If the fan is brand new and just installed, you may have forgotton to remove the brakes off the fan motor while installing the fan blades to the fan motor, these brakes are pieces of plastic to keep the fan motor from turning in the box while shipping from the factory, remove 1 fan blade and either on top or just underneath the fan motor where the blades screw on are small pieces of p[lastic that will keep the fan motor from working, simply remove these plastic brakes.

None of the lights work on the fan but the blades spin

1. Test bulbs in another appliance. Are they burnt out?
2. Some fans have a separate pull chain switch, Check to see if there is one and pull to turn on.
3. Lights in a fan are a separate unit attached internally with wires via a twist cap. They may have come loose. If you are handy, try removing the light fixture from the fan, usually three or four small screws on side of base. The light fixture will come down exposing the wiring.
If you are not handy, call an electrician depending on what you think it is worth the expense of buying a whole new light and fan.

How do I connect a 3 bulb light kit to my 30 ceiling fan?

as the wires for the lights come down through the shaft around which the fan spins and have to be connected to a separate light switch , this really is a job for an accredited electrician

Hi I have had fitted a newlec extractor fan in my shower room.

It should have been fitted by an accredited electrician because it is an IP rated unit used in a wet environment and should have an earth wire fitted to it which normally is not with a light switch
depending on the electrical regulations for your area the earth wire could be run from the metal body of the unit to an earth wire connection in a power point (gpo outlet)
but a talk with an electrician would be the safe way to go.

The fan works when the light switch on the wall was turned on one bulb blew and now the light will not work the fan does but not the light.

if it has a switch for the light and a switch for the fan might be the switch. if it's just one both the fan and light works on one switch and runs off the pull chains, there is a easy way to test this take a multi meter put it on volts put one lead on the light nib were the bulb screws in and one one the screw part itself do you have 120 volts. if yes turn off power take a screwdriver a small flat head pull that nib out a bit they get compressed after some time. if no power you need to look at the wires in the fan one is for the light one is for the fan make sure you have a good connection. could also be the pull chain its self the pull switches do occationaly get stuck or break. and please if you feel overwhelmed call an electrician
good luck a journeyman electrician

Our electrician left all the dip switches in the same position for three fans. So now if someone turns on a light downstairs the light goes on upstairs. All we have is a remote, no wall switch from Minka....

Why not give your electrician a chance to do the job right but from your description I beleieve your electrician is confused between wired and remote control operation

My hunter fan light can't be turned on/off with the light switch

The switch will only turn the power on to the fan/light. You have to use the remote to dimm the light & change the speeds. You should be able to install it on the wall next to the switch so you can turn on your light when entering the room.

Dec 23, 2009 | Hunter Ceiling Fan Light Switch Control

1 Answer

Light/fan won't turn on

A remote control seems a rather unnecessary complication as it means the light fitting must include some fairly sensitive electronics that will inevitably affect the reliability and lifespan of something that needs to be reliable and long-lived.

Electric motors are electrically fairly noisy and not very friendly towards sensitive electronics, especially at switch on or switch off and voltage surges on the supply can happen at any time. The only way to build such a remote controlled fan to be long-lived and reliable would be to fit filters, suppressors and shielding until it is impossibly expensive. The sensitive electronics in reality are unlikely to represent a greater quality than a far-eastern handbag factory can manage.

I suggest you call an electrician and if the electronics are faulty, have them bypassed so it is controlled solely by the wall switch and drop the remote in the garbage...
