The engine will run if I hook up jumper cables to

I have a Husquvarana 22Hp 'v twin riding mower with a 42" deck.
The engine will run if I hook up jumper cables to my truck and jump start it, but as soon as I disconnect the jumpers it will stall out. The main 20 amp fuse is ok and the battery has 10 volts in it. Can you tell me what the problem is?

The on board electric system is not working, you lose your spark when you remove the jumper cables, this tells you the mower is not making its own electricity. So either the alternator or its regulator, or both have gone south.
With the engine running, you should have just above 12 volts at the battery.
So find a manual, locate the alternator/generator, and be looking in that area for a broken connection, blown fuse, or bad component.

Ow do I tighten the belt on the mowing platform

Most JD mower decks use a spring loaded tensioner on their belts. Make sure that the belt is threadded thru the pulleys the right way and you may find that considerable effort is required to set the tensioner in position. Be very careful to ensure that if the grip slips the spring flies away from you. I use the hook on a cargo strap to pull mine into position. Normally there is a similar tensioner on the drive belt for the wheels. This is more challenging to get to.

i would start my car/vehicle and hook up a pair of jumper cables and jump the mower, more then likely the battery is out, Wal-mart sells them for around $30. Remember to hook the cables to the mower fist, making sure you will be able to sit on the seat without causing the cables to short out, then hook them to the vehicle, depending how far gone the battery is you may or may not need to start the vehicle. Good Luck Tim

Hello - I have craftsman 42 inch deck mower with a kohlar engine that does not start. Battery appears fine, when I turn it - it clicks with the head lights turning on. Ang ideas on how to get it started?...

With the key in the run position, using a jumper cable, jump from the positive post on battery to terminal on starter motor. If it runs you have a solenoid or ignition switch problem. (assuming all electrical connections are clean). If it doesn't crank the battery is the culprit.

Try using jumper cables and jumping from the positive battery post to the starter lug where the main cable hooks to the starter. If you don't have jumper cables find the solenoid on the inside of the right side panel. Pull the rubber caps off and jump that with an old screw driver if the engine turns and starts on either occasion it is the solenoid. Part # 192507 sells for about $15.00 at

Craftsman 22hp 7500 zero turn mower 3years old.

Be careful - running ungoverned will quickly destroy the engine. Look at the carburetor throttle lever. There should be two linkages attached -- one from the manual throttle lever, another from the governor. The linkage to the governor is usually a spring. Perhaps that came off or broke, or a foreign object is wedged in there.
