My laptop drops the internet then in a moment it comes back then repeats over and over

Several computer models include two specific hardware components that enable the device to connect to the Internet: an Ethernet adapter card and a wireless adapter card.

These cards are also called network adapters, or network cards.
If your computer suffers from an intermittent Internet connection, and your Internet service provider (ISP) doesn't detect any issues on their end, you can update the software for the network adapters to resolve the intermittent connection.

If updating the adapters doesn't resolve the problem, reset the transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) and Winsock to restore the connection.

Click "Start." Click "Control Panel."
Type "manager" into the search bar.
Click "Device Manager."

Expand "Network Adapters."
You should have one wired adapter and one wireless adapter, if the computer has wireless support.

Double-click each adapter.
Write down the name of the adapter, as well as the manufacturer's name.

Go to the computer or network adapter manufacturer's website if you installed the adapter to the computer yourself.
If the adapter came with the computer, go to the computer manufacturer's site instead.

Select the "Support," "Download" or "Drivers" page.
Look up your computer or adapter model.

Select your operating system.
Click the "Network," "LAN" or "Internet" category.

Download the latest adapters for your network devices.
Click "Save" or "Save As" and save the files to your desktop.

Return to Device Manager. Right-click the first device. Click "Update Driver Software."
Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software."

Follow the remaining on-screen directions to reinstall the device driver.
Repeat the process for the other network device.

Restart the computer after reinstalling the drivers to repair the intermittent Internet issue.

Reset IP

Log in to Windows as an administrator.
Hold down the Ctrl, Shift and Esc keys to open Windows Task Manager.

Click "File." Click "New Task." Type "cmd" and press Enter to open Command Prompt.

Type "netsh int IP reset c:\resetlog.txt" into the Command Prompt.
Press Enter to rewrite the TCP/IP registry keys.

Enter "netsh winsock reset" into the command-line prompt.
Press Enter to reset the Winsock catalog and resolve the intermittent Internet problem.

Motorola 1c743 wireless adapter reset

You modem needs to be powered on, linked to your cable or phone connection, and then linked to your router with an Ethernet cord. You also need a base computer (connected to the router with Ethernet as well) to adjust your router settings, like password and router name, and assure that you are communicating with the Internet.

Install your wireless adapter software to your laptop or computer that will be using the Internet wirelessly. You will be prompted at some point during the installation to plug in the adapter. (If prompted, restart your computer.)

Plug the adapter into your computer or laptop. Some adapters come as USB-compatible (Universal Serial Bus) plug-and-play devices, and others are PCMIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) cards that go into a special wide slot in laptops.

Go to your computer control panel and click on Network Connections when the software download is complete (if the control panel does not load automatically). Your new adapter should be now be listed. Select the icon and look at the description to make sure that it is connected. If not, right-click the adapter icon and click Enable.

Double-click the adapter to search for a wireless connection. Refresh the list of connections available until you find the name of your router. Enter any passwords that you set up for your wireless router and then connect to the Internet.

Hello,

I'm afraid your only option is to get the drivers one way or the other before you can connect to the internet or the network.

What I recommend is simply downloading the drivers from another computer that has access to the internet and transfering the driver package with a USB key or an other portable storage device.

Thanks,

Pat

Cannot connect to the internet. Error message says adapter not connected. Where is the adapter?

For most laptop/notebook/netbook computers, the wireless adapter is "inside" the casing.

By "not connected", it means that your wireless-adapter *IS* physically connected to your computer, but it does *NOT* have a "logical" connection to the wireless-adapter inside the router.

Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Network Connections
Click View Available Wireless Networks
Select the SSID corresponding to your router.
Click Connect.
Supply an ID/password/pass-phrase, to get "connected".

How to connect wireless router, Netgear WGR614, to my computer?

4 steps to set up your home wireless network
1.
Choose your wireless equipment
The first step is to make sure that you have the equipment you need. As you're looking for products in stores or on the Internet, you might notice that you can choose equipment that supports three different wireless networking technologies: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. We recommend 802.11g, because it offers excellent performance and is compatible with almost everything.
Shopping list
• Broadband Internet connection
• Wireless router
• A computer with built-in wireless networking support or a wireless network adapter

A wireless router
The router converts the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast, sort of like a cordless phone base station. Be sure to get a wireless router, and not a wireless access point.
A wireless network adapter
Network adapters wirelessly connect your computer to your wireless router. If you have a newer computer you may already have wireless capabilities built in. If this is the case, then you will not need a wireless network adapter. If you need to purchase an adapter for a desktop computer, buy a USB wireless network adapter. If you have a laptop, buy a PC card-based network adapter. Make sure that you have one adapter for every computer on your network.
Note: To make setup easy, choose a network adapter made by the same vendor that made your wireless router. For example, if you find a good price on a Linksys router, choose a Linksys network adapter to go with it. To make shopping even easier, buy a bundle, such as those available from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Microsoft, and Buffalo. If you have a desktop computer, make sure that you have an available USB port to plug the wireless network adapter into. If you don't have any open USB ports, buy a hub to add additional ports.
2.
Connect your wireless router
Since you'll be temporarily disconnected from the Internet, print these instructions before you go any further.
First, locate your cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it to turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your modem. Your modem should stay connected directly to the Internet. Later, after you've hooked everything up, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will send communications through your modem to the Internet.
