Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Trying to connect a laptop (tried both Mac and PC) to a Panasonic TC-P50x1 42" Plasma HDTV that doesn't have VGA input. I am using a converter box from Cables Unlimited to convert from VGA TO HDMI. We know that the HDMI input works because we tested it with a camera. We know that the VGA cable works because we tested it. We know that the converter works because we tested it. Does the Panasonic need some configuration adjustment to receive this signal?

What type of converter are you using? Is it something like this: http://www.amazon.com/VGA-HDMI-Cable-6-feet/dp/B002TUC64W . I do not believe this will work since this TV is not set up to handle a computer's video directly. Usually, an HDMI port that works with a computer will be labeled HDMI/DVI. Otherwise you need the computer's video card can output in a TV mode (unfortunately that rules out most laptop graphics cards). You may be better off with a VGA to Component Video converter box ( http://www.svideo.com/pctocomponent.html ) and connect to the component video in on the TV.

I wish that I could be of more help.

How can I connect my PC to Panasonic viera tc-p50x1

OK, I have no idea if you want to connect a laptop or a desktop, but either way, I'll try to make as simple as possible.

I believe your tv model is not a smart tv. I own one. To connect any external device to the tv, you must set up the external device, not the tv. In this case is a PC, your PC must be equip with an HDMI output, just like a BluRay or mobile device. If it's a laptop, you need to find out which hotkey combination to use to enable the mirroring of your laptop. You can find that out by reading the owner's manual or visiting your laptop's manufacturer website.
If it's a desktop, all you need is an HDMI video or graphic card.
Then just connect the HDMI cable to any of the HDMI input in the TV. Now, with the RC, press source or input to the connected HDMI slot from the TV, in this case there are 3 of them, you must choose HDMI 1, 2 or 3.

No. It is not going to work.
VGA is an Analog signal. HDMI is a digital signal, that is why you need the box, it converts analog to digital.
You can get VGA to DVI and DVI to HDMI convertors because DVI is capable of using both - depending on the type of DVI you have.

I have a HP notebook laptop that I am trying to connect to a Sanyo 42 inch Plasma HDTV model DP42740 . I have VGA , S-video ,and an Expansion port 3 jacks coming out of my laptop. What way would you...

That television doesn't have a VGA input, but it does have an S-video in. So this is the cable that you would need to connect to get the video image on the screen. However, s-video does not carry sound. So you either run the sound from the laptop still, or use the earphone jack to bring the sound out to your surround amp, or tv.

I have a Panasonic TC-P50X1 and want to connect my laptop to it. What should I do?

If your laptop has a DVI or HDMI output, then the solution is as easy as buying a DVI to HDMI cable, or simply an HDMI cable, because your TV set uses HDMI as an input. If you have a Macbook, there are Displayport to HDMI cables/adapters available.

However, if your laptop only has VGA output, then you must buy a converter. Why? The VGA output available on almost any laptop is an analog signal. Buying simple cable adapters will not make your TV (which reads only digital signals) read the analog VGA signal.

How to conect a pc to a panasonic plasma th50px75u?

Panasonic didn't make it a simple matter to connect a computer to this TV since they didn't include a VGA input connector. You can still do it, but it will require some adapters or changes to your PC.

If you're using a laptop, you have two options. If the laptop offers an s-video output, you can use a suitable cable from there to one of the set's s-video inputs. If there's no s-video output, the other option is to purchase a VGA-to-component breakout cable, available at a number of online vendors (search with Google). This cable has the VGA connector to the computer on one end, and 3 RCA plugs at the other end. You would use this cable into one of the set's component video inputs.

With a desktop PC, you can still use one of those two options. In addition, there may be a DVI video output connector available as well. This is not common on computers with integrated video, but is frequently found on many newer expansion video cards. If your computer has this connector (or you install a new video card with one), you can use a DVI-to-HDMI adapter and connect an HDMI cable to one of the set's HDMI inputs. Many video cards with DVI outputs include one of these adapters already.

So while it's not going to be simple, it's certainly possible to connect your PC to this TV.
