Sta Rite StaRite Duraglas Pump 1 12 HP Single Speed Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jul 28, 2010

I have a 18 year old dura-glas pool pump. Recently, when turned on, the pump sometimes just 'hums' for about 3-4 seconds, then starts. The pump is primed and does not leak. There are no obstructions inside the housing. Other times, the pump starts right up. Any ideas? Thank you

I am changing from a Dura/Glas H/L to an emerson1081 2horse

I am assuming the H/L You are talking about actually means that the pump has two speeds? You have an extra hot leg that comes from your timer to the pump or switch (depending on how it is set up) to allow for the second speed to be operated. For the new single speed pump you need only a hot (usually black), neutral (usually white) and ground (usually green). More than likely, you currently have two blacks, a white and a green. For you to wire in the single speed, you just need to abandon the second leg (black) but make sure that you cap it off, because when the second side of the time clock turns on, power will still be going through that leg.
Let me know if I understood your question! Thank you!

I have a STA-Rite dura Glas H/L 1 1/2 - 1/4 hp pump. it is on it's 7th year. recently it has started to make a screeching noise. Can it be repaired or should it be replaced?

you can take your motor to the local Motor Shop and have them put new bearings in it. That is usually what causes that noise in the motor.

Where can a find a new pump CHEAP? Current pump is Model C48L2P104 (18 years old). Serial 1B93. Voltage 230 HP 1.5 RPM 3450/1725 Amps 9.2/2.5 Frame 48Y Dura-glas H/L

A new motor and pump parts (if needed) would be cheaper than a whole new pump. Your motor is part number UQS1152R or if you just want a single, high speed motor you could use USQ1152 to replace it. You will likely need a seal and seal insert as well; part number 100 (it may have letters in front like AS100, PS100, etc) and J3-2. A whole new pump you should shop for part #P2RA5YF-182L.

For a quote on the parts from us you can contact us using thru our website at www.arrowpools.net. Otherwise, google those numbers to locate your best deal.

When I turn it on it just makes a loud humming noise. Any ideas?? Thanks

Check to see if you can turn by hand, Open housing and do this. Turn on and see if you can spin it and make it start(CAREFUL) If it won't turn ether when off or while it has power going to it, UH-OH! it's time for a new motor. If it will turn and starts when you spin it, it is probably just a start capacitor. Good luck.

Pump froz and dont start

Is it still frozen?? If so thaw it out first.

If defrosted, will need to strip motor to see if you can hand turn it / free it up.

I have a sta rite dura glas 1HP pump and can't figure out how to get the impeller off. Can you tell me?

Lock the shaft at the end where you electrical connections are made (disconnected of course!) and spin it off counterclockwise.
