Wireless N is the newer version of wireless signal. It isnt really much of a difference, but N has a slimly faster speed. You would be perfectly fine with G, but i have N and it is really a luxury.

What do i need to make my Ibm thinkpad t21 have wifi? I bought this laptop off of ebay and they said it would come with wifi but it didnt.

You could buy a USB wireless network adapter and plug it into a USB port and get wireless internet that way. Wouldn't matter which USB network adapter that you would buy.

How do you connect to the internet with the compaqnx9005? Do I have to buy a network card? Paul

Any "modern" notebook computer will have both an Ethernet adapter and a wireless adapter built-in, especially one labelled as a "business" model.

Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Classic View
Click System
Click Hardware
Click Device Manager
Click the '+' in front of Network Adapters
to show the installed adapters.

Take an Ethernet cable, and connect one end to the Ethernet slot in your computer, and the other end to a cable-modem or a DSL-modem, and you'll have an Internet connection, through the Internet Service Provider of your choice (Comcast, Roadrunner, Verizon, et cetera).

Or, connect "wirelessly" at the local Starbucks.

Laptop will not connect to the internet anymore.

are you using wifi connection, I mean wireless connection or you're hooking up to a LAN network or through a modem connection?  If all this connection wouldn't worked out anymore, try reinstalling your Operating System!

I cannot connect with linksys wireless router

From your description, you appear to be connected to the router fine.

Try powering down the modem from Comcast for about 2 minutes then power it back up. If it doesn't come back, call Comcast service as it is likely on their end.

Hope this helps.

The usb stick is replacing the job of the card in the pc so it could be faulty, but first reinstall the latest driver for it and give it another try - what version of windowns/linux to do run? What make is the card - (look in Device Manager)? Then I can help further if needed.

Router/modem?

Your device is a combination Cabal Modem and Wireless Router with a fairly limited security screening profile. While it is doubtful that the problem is the OS on your notebook, it could easily be the wireless network card in your notebook that is the problem.

In this instance replacing the unit is probably the best way to go, as there are much better units available for much less money and in addition you will have full access to the configuration of the router and its security and connection settings.

To replace this device with one new device simply be certain to get a Cabal Router/Modem with Wireless Access.
