Hi

May be the paper tray is setting to tight against the paper pushing it tight up to the front of the tray. Back the rear support up so there is maybe 1/16 inch clearance between the paper and the end of the tray.
Slid the rear clamp back to adjust the distance.
Please read this article bellow if it gives you any help or an idea…

The reason for that is the front is the paper output tray, the rear tray is where you load the paper. Anything you print, copy, or scanned (to print) will come out the output tray (in front) and will pull paper from the rear tray.

Canon pixma 3100 keeps saying load paper and won't print

If you have paper in the loading tray and it keeps giving you out of paper message then the sensor by the loading hopper is not working and would need to be replaced.

9 times out of ten though you might want to clean the printer and make sure the hopper is not just jammed this happens when you put too much paper in there at one given time.

thanks

FRONT PAPER FEED

Go to this site. In the search window in the center of the screen, type "paper tray" and click on the Search button. Select the link "How do I load the paper". When the document comes up, select the link "Cassette" near the top. You will see illustrated step-by-step instructions. If you are missing the cassette tray, contact Canon.

"Load Paper" screen wont go away. Is loaded with paper!! Help!!

Goto the job status and select the print job that is waiting.. To the right, select details and select the paper size you want. Identify the job because you will want to make sure the settings in that document are set to the correct paper size and type.

Loading paper from top.

there is a button to press to swap it from the back tray and the bottom tray. it sounds like you might have some thing stuck in the rear feeder causing the paper not to go through. i would try it from the bottom feeder and see if it works,

might be worth turning the machine off and unplug it and then try turning it upside down and shaking the machine, to see if anything come out of it.

If not i would say to take it apart or call a service engineer out.

Hope this helps

Not reading paper

If you toggle the Feed Switch button (lower left side of control panel) to the Front Tray, does the printer print then? What type of paper is selected in your Printer Settings on the computer? I think that if you have selected anything but Plain Paper, the driver wants you to load the paper (photo paper, etc.) in the Rear Tray.
