How do you connect AKAI model # PDP4290 to cable ?

You will need a cable box/set-top box with this TV. Contact your cable TV provider for this.
It does not have a direct RF connection, only AV connections.
For Cable TV support you can use
  • Composite video (single RCA connector)
  • SVideo (round 4 pin connector)
  • Component Connectors (3 RCA connecters red/green/blu)

Component will give you the highest quality signal (as long has the cable box supports this connection) You will also need to connect the Audio connectors (red/white RCA) from the cable box to the TV as well.

The full PDF manual for your TV can be found here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0502572.pdf

I hope this helps,

Connecting my TV and DVD player to a digital set top box

There are 4 different types of cables and they have to do with the quality and resolution of what they carry.
1) Coaxial or an RCA to RCA, 'Yellow colored connectors' - Composite video - Lowest quality of video you can get. Mostly what people hook up from their VCR's. '240 to 480 lines of interlaced resolution.

2) S-VHS cable - 4 pins - Carry Chroma 'Color' over the one set of two pins and Luminance 'B&W' signal over the other 2 pins. This is a higher resolution than the Composite video cable - 480 to 512 'still interlaced resolution' or ' i ' .

3) Component cables - RCA ends but there are 3 of them. Red colored 'for the Red video signal', Green colored connector 'for the Green video signal with Vertical sync laid on top of it,' and then Blue colored 'for the 'yep you guessed it' the Blue video signal with the horizontal carrier laid on top of the signal'.
This is the higher resolution of 720 ' i ' interlaced or even when selected by your piece of output equipment up to 1080p 'Progressive' resolution if your equipment can output this highest resolution.

4) HDMI - is a cable that not only carries the component but does it digitally along with audio and an ID bit that the Transmitting equipment 'STB' in this case should communicate with your 32" LCD HD-TV so that it will put out the maximum signal 'probably 1080P' that your TV will handle.
I would try to obtain an HDMI cable and use this to connect your STB to your LCD for the best connection between your two units.

The antenna/cable in threaded piece has come out of the back of the tv. How can I fix that. I tried to put it back but it won't stay. I think I need a new one.

These sets have what is known as a on board Tuner. This means that the Tuner is not replaceable without replacing the entire Board. The good news is that you can replace the Cable/RF connector as long as the shield it attached to is not broke or too bent. Most of the Cable/RF connectors used in these sets have PCB mount . You will have to remove the Signal Board and unsolder the center connection of the broken connector left on the Board. Remount the new
Connector and solder the center connection. You may need a collar nut to secure the Connector the the shield.
I hope this helps,

If I tap the rca jacks in the back the screen gets distorted

You need a hdmi connector from your tv source to the TV. RCA connectors don't have the capability for HD signal transmission. You can use them for a connection but the picture will be fuzzy if trying to watch HD signal. Check your cable/dish box to see if there is a hdmi output. If so, buy a hdmi cable & that should solve your problems.

RCA tv model D52W14

That is an ITC222 chassis and likely the HOT has shorted, 2sc5588 Rca Part # 259899
You might also check Cp150 2200uf/16v in the 6 volt line, a common failure. Always replace Cp120 330uf/35v & Cp150 2200uf/16v and always resolder Cl031 & Cl032...
There is also a tech bulletin Tv-06003 Dated 12/8/2006 which states:
Replace deformed ribbon cable plastic connector BP005 on the flyback board. This connector is warping or bowing (May Not Even Look Like It) and causing poor connections to the ribbon cable. Replace Rca P/N # 258686.
Try putting pressure on the BP005 connector and turn the set on, you may find the set will now work fine. Replace connector and you may wish to replace the ribbon as well while you are doing the repair!
This set is notorious for failures like this and it is not uncommon to find multiple problems.
Hope this helps!
