Cant thread cotton correctly resulting in top cotton bunching around bobbin on my elna carina su sewing machine

Hi. Correct threading of your machine is absolutely essential for flawless function. I would suggest starting fresh, removing upper thread completely. For correct function, every threading point needs to be passed in the correct order. Every hole or thread guide should have thread going through it. Use a tweezer and pass the end of the cotton through each point, paying special attention to the tension discs and take-up lever. Double check to make sure you have light but firm tension on the thread (having lowered the presser foot, because tension is released when foot is up). Rotate the hand wheel slowly in it's normal direction to check function before attempting to sew.

Cannot use my 1/4 inch foot as the needle is not positioned properly on my elna contessa 410

Set the stitch width to zero or set for straight stitch, as opposed to zig zag or button hole.

I have a Tacsew T11-115 and I do not have an instruction book. I need to see if I have it treaded correctly and how to adjust the bobbin tension. The top thread is laying on the fabric and the bobbin...

For all sewing machines, if the bobbin thread is showing on the top surface, then the top tension is probably too tight. Turn the tension indicator to the left by half a number to a lower value. (So that if 5 was lined up with the dot initially, then go to 4.5 lined up with the dot).

See this article for some clear pictures of thread tension adjustments: http://www.ca.uky.edu/HES/fcs/FACTSHTS/CT-MMB-213.pdf . If you can find it the Singer Sewing Book is a good reference http://www.amazon.com/Singer-Sewing-Book-Gladys-Cunningham/dp/0307098702 .

This site, http://www.allbrands.com/products/abc0762.html , may be able to find and send you a manual to the TacSew T11-115. They have the T11-155 for sale.

I hope this helps.

Hi, My mom gave her machine to me but with no guide. It is an Elna 5000. Just need to know the following - I want to shorten a T-shirt but use the same double sticthing than the shop. It looks like...

Maggie,
getting hold of a manual is always a big help so I would suggest that you go to this page http://www.arizonaexpressionz.com/elna_instruction_manuals/Elna7000.pdf and save this manual. It is for the 7000 which was released about 9 months after the 5000. It will have more stitches than yours but the threading up, accessories and look of the machine is identical to yours. These were the first computerised machines made by Elna Tavaro in Switzerland back in 1987/88.

The bobbin thread bunches up underneath the garment on Elna 2004 sp

Check that the thread is tight around the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is in the right way around - the bobbin thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder. The bobbin tension adjustment is the small screw in the plate on the bobbin case that the thread passes under as it comes off the bobbin and goes out.

I do not have a manual and can thread for needles but the two other threads are a mysteryonce I get to the last bit the machine cuts but does not sew therefore I cannot be doing the threading properly...

First, you can search for a manual for your machine by searching with the make, model number, and the word manual. Like "Elna 6003 manual", and chances are you can at very least find a paper one to buy, but often now you can find free downloads in pdf format.

Then, most machines require that the needle be put in with the flat side to the back. If you're doing that, then check that you're threading from front to back. I can't remember about the one machine I used years ago that threaded from side to side, but it was probably the same, with the thread going from the rounded side of the needle to the flat side. But first, try searching for a manual. And are you using cheap thread? It's not worth the time it takes to thread the machine. Get at least Coats and Clark general purpose thread, if not something better.
