The problem is related to the internal oil pump. The followings are the possibilities:

  • Clogged line from the oil reservoir to the pump.
  • Clogged line between the oil pump and the chainsaw bar orifice.
  • Faulty oil pump itself (common in well used/old device).
Hope it helps.

Chainsaw chain keeps getting tighter when using?

this is a sure sign of chain overheating , due to not enough oil to bar , this will eventually cause bar to wear down and chain to not stay on

ck your oil pump and oil tank for proper operation

How to correct no oil flow to bar on Model172.34120

ive not done much with this model but I can give you some basics on why I see lots of chainsaws loose there oiling of bar
(1) Wrong oil used in supply tank- most all chain saws take 30 wt bar chain oil . this is a lite/fine oil and needs to be so it flows thru small ports and pump on saws
(2) fine sawdust in supply tank - I guess anything can fall in the tank but I do find theres a lot of junk that falls in there over time , if it don't flow like oil does then it don't belong in the tank
(3) sawdust jammed in bar ports this id say is the biggest one I find , seems sawdust (all different size pieces) finds its way into the fine ports that oil is suppose to flow thru , sawdust mixed with oil makes a darn fine plug !!!

other than these simple things above , most saws have lots of parts that can break and fall off look for something just not right looking and sometimes it will be very obvious whats missing

I have borrowed a chainsaw PWR1750CSA from a friend i need to know what oil goes in the tank, i presume it is to lubricate the chain.

The fuel tank takes a 25-1 fuel oil mix, the oil tank takes a non fling chain oil to lubricate the chain, if you you a light oil it will spray off the end of the bar and not lubricate the under side of the bar where most cutting is done, if you cannot get non fling oil use as thick an oil as you can get hold of.

Poulan PRO chainsaw -- oil is not getting to bar...what could be the problem?

You need to remove the bar and chain, clean out all the oil delivery holes in the bar, if no better drain the oil tank, fill with a suitable cleaning fluid and rinse out the tank, this will help to clean any dirt from the pick up filter, now try again, if still no better, you will have to remove the clutch and sprocket to gain acess to the oil pump itself

I have a older remington gas powered chainsaw (model SL16)- I rebuilt the carb (new diaphragm and gaskets), started it , did some adjustments and it ran great- When adding bar oil to the bar oil tank and...

An impulse line from the crankcase pressurizes the oil tank to force oil to the chain. On the bottom of this line in the oil tank is duck (one way) valve. I think it has failed (open) and you are sucking bar oil into the crankcase. Loosen the oil cap before putting her to bed to help stop the bar oil from weeping. Key word Help. LOL HTH
