Question about Whirlpool Gold 24 in. Built-In Dishwasher Dishwasher

1 Answer

GU980 dishwasher I have a buzzing sound when the washer is in drain mode. The manual indicates there might be something in the Power Clean Filter, and that it will go away when the object grinds up. I called Whirpool, and they said the same, and to run for 2-3 cycles to make go away. 2-3 cyles later, noise is still there. I noticed a nub off the rack that looks like an end peice of metal broke off from rust. My guess is it's stuck in the PCF, and will not grind up. I removed the nut, lower spray arm, and mechanism on top of the PCF (6 screws), and there's a round, rubber piece with a screw in the middle. This is where I got stuck. I cannot get the screw off to get to the PCF. I do not want to break it and have a bigger problem, especially when I don't know that will solve anything. Any suggestions? Thanks, Art

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

The nut holding the inpeller has to come off it is probally frozen
if it snaps off then the pump assy willl have to be replaced or at least the motor, you need to get below the impeller to see what is down there though, or let it run as it is

My dishwasher will not drain completely

Most likely, the drain pump is clogged or the filter for the main pump is clogged with goo. If, during the drain cycle, water is just "peeing" into the drain line or sink drain, something is clogged. Broken glass, food, bones, etc., can find a way into the main pump mech or into the drain pump. You didn't specify what model washer you have but check the round removable filter found in a lot of Frigidaire dishwashers. Yours could be square, rectangular, etc. Get the users manual if you need help finding out how to clean the filter! Remember, if water can't move freely through the filter, your washer won't spray strongly either. Also, dishwashers will not drain out every drop of water--they will drain past where you can see the water but there will always be a small puddle of water in the motor. This keeps the seals moist and prevents dry-rotting, cracking and leaking.

I noticed just as going to bed last night that our dishwasher appeared to be making a strange noise (dull buzzing sound), opened door to check and the display has the number 3 flashing, several fault codes...

check the very bottom of washer; look for something jamming the garbage cutting blades. it can be something very small stock half way in the drain causing the blades to stop turning and therefore keeps it from draining water. just an idea

How to make dishwasher drain? Water stands in bottom after washing. Also has buzzing sound!

Most likely you have something hard that got past the filter and got stuck in the drain pump, keeping the impeller from turning. Unplug the dishwasher. Siphon or vacuum out the water from the dishwasher. Remove the toe-kick panel(s) to get to the drain pump. Look carefully for a realease tab to press, then rotate the drain pump 1/8th to 1/4th turn to release it. Check for and clean out any foreigh objects, then re-assemble.

Kenmore portable dishwasher not working

THERE IS A PLASTIC COVER GRATE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DISHWASHER TAKES A 1/4 INCH NUT DRIVER TO REMOVE IT, TAKE IT OFF CLEAN OT THE DEBRIS AND FLUSH WITH A BUCKET OF WATER, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE FILTER, IF ANYTHING IS IN THERE YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE IT, I HAVE FOUND STRAWS AND KNIVES IN SOME DISHWASHERS, HOW THEY GET IN THER IS A MISTORY BUT THEY DO

Kenmore portable dishwasher not working

is the buzz sound when you ask it to drain or ask it to fill with water? or is the buzz sound when it is trying to wash? IF it is when you ask it to drain either you have something stuck in your air gap causeing no drain or there is something in your pump I would check the easy stuff first by checking the air gap this is if it is buzzing when you ask it to drain. let me know what is the senario.

BUZZING SOUND WHEN RUNNING

It sounds as if there is something in the bottom part of the dishwasher arm (it sprays the water around the bottom of the dishwasher). I would suggest that you take out the baskets and then remove and clean all of the parts that water comes out of as well as the bottom drain. If this works or does not, I would also suggest that you run an empty load using 1/4 cup vinegar. Hope this helps!

Buzzing sound

a loud buzzing sound it is probably a faulty control/timer module.

If the appliance works the same, you can keep it like this, if it still under guaranty, call the number listed on the owner manual to get repair.

If you got the sound only recently, that means that the control is going to fail soon, in that case call a repairman and have the control assembly replaced.

You find diagrams and parts here,
just enter the model number.

Stops mid-cycle (all cycles)

Hello welcome

First I would recommend putting the washer in a diagnostic test mode to see if there is a stored error code indicating where the failure is. Once the cycle starts, it should progress on its own to the end of the cycle without needing any assistance. All you can really do is make sure the water supply (hot & cold) is on & the drain hose is not kinked or restricted. Here is a copy of the service manual showing the test modes & error codes. You can order the owners manual with part number 8566938 at www.sears.com
