I have over 30 years experience in digital electronics. Recently I have repaired a dozen or so lcd and plasma tv's. I have a problem with a Polaroid TLA04011c. According to my customer when he tried to plug in the vga the tv went dead. Before it worked fine. I have found numerous postings that refer to too much resolution from the computer vga driver damaging the tv. To me this is insane, I have hooked up many lcd models with the wrong resolution and the only thing that happened was an error message. When the tv is plugged in, i get a solid red lamp that never changes or flickers when the power switch is depressed. I have a good 24 and 5 vdc from two of the three areas of the lvps. I figure the third output voltage is switched by the logic. However without schematics I don't know for sure but at this point I am assuming it is on the main control board since the status led never changes from red and that was the board the customer plugged into. There is no excessive heating of any components anywhere. Is there a reset procedure for the main control board? Can you give me specifics to isolate problem to a board? Where can I find a service manual with schematics? This has to be a reset procedure... am I correct?

Hi:
Yes you are correct you have a floating return ground on the main system control board, check all ground connections on the microprocess itself, you might take a light torch and try heating the micro area of the sys control board. There is no reset on this model its done by the microprocessor, but there is a reset lead on the micro which should read high while operating normally, Logic probe this pin while turning on the unit if it continues to stay hi even when turning off the unit then replace the Main system control.

I havent had time to check that out but will soon i have to take it apart again and it's a ridiculos procedure.... I have had plenty of floating ground problems in my life why not another one... back with you soon

Hi,
Reset procedure is as follows:

Press Volume Up and Channel Up buttons on tv simultaneously and release.

Above procedure will set tv to default factory settings.

Click HERE to download service manual copy that will help you.

Did you tried to hook tv with computer on low resolution so it can turn On?
Thanks.

The manual is a users manual and doesn't do much good.. To clarify the TV is not coming on whether VGA or TV inputs. I tried connecting the vga with windows 7 but that didnt help. However, an interesting point .... Windows detected the TV with the proper model number and reccommended a resolution even with the tv not powering up. That tells me basic logic must be working. I tried various combinations of screen resolution down to 400 x 600 and including the one windows reccomendeds for this monitor (1368 /768) but still nothing happens the red light remains a steady on when the power cord is plugged in... and there is no picture or sound. it is not powering on..

The reset procedure you reccomended didnt make any changes and is probably for use once tv powers on.

I have found listing after listing on this model where people have plugged in the vga and the tv totally shuts down, but no solutions...

I thought it would be service manual but its user manual, sorry for that mistake.
This site offers service manual for small fee, check it out please.
In my opinion, it seems firmware got crashed when PC/VGA input selected that is why no options to return it back or cancel PC input.
Main board of TLA-04011C is available with Shop Jimmy for $275 and I think main board replacement will solve the problem because I do not see any firmware update option.
    Thanks.

georgiaheasm, I you prove pc not problem, then you or qualified electronics technician will need to troubleshoot units internat power supply for common problems associated with LCD plasma and CCFL back-lit monitors. Look for some DIY videos on YOUTUBE that deal with lcd repair, plasma lcd repair, lcd monitor disassembly, lcd tv disassembly. Look at them even though you will not DIY repair your unit. 42 inch screen

Did you measure diagonally from corner to corner? This is usually how all manufacturers quote screen size. Hope this helps

if nobody will repair the tv, then your probably better off buy a new one. yours could have the bulbs blow, there could be something wrong with the board or the power supply. i don't recommend working on a tv because they are very easy to mess up and do even more damage. for your next tv, get a higher rated brand like samsung or sony. they tend to be more reliable and are easier to fix/find somebody to fix

Polaroid lcd tv-combo

If the TV goes off completely, then is usually a faulty power board.

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1Theinternal circuits are jammed because of electrostaticcharges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage readby the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started theprotection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrongvoltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in, starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

On LCD Payparticular attention at inverter and power board, power board can beinspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with amultimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need toread voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.
