This will work in most all cases of this type. You need a piece of copper wire, 14 guage, 12 to 16 inches. You can shortin it as you need to Turnoff the power to the fridge. Rap one end of the wire around the evaprorator heater and feed the othe end down the drain tube. This wire will heat up when the heater comes on and will supply heat down into the drain tube hopefully preventing the drain from freezing.

You may have the temp. set TOO HIGH for the freezer, set it in #2, leave the fridge setting in the mid range for now. Check after 24hrs. and adjust as necessary.

These tempratures are pretty cold should be around 0 deg. but it sounds like you might have a bad defrost timer or defrost thermostat the frost should not come back if defrost system is working

I have a hotpoint ffa90 fridge/freezer .fridge not working ,freezer is ok .fridge not getting cold at all. many thanks jen.

hello jennie,
remove the rear panel on the inside rear of the freezer to assure that you dont have an icebuild up on the evaporator if you do have an ice build up this is mainly due to your unit having a defrost issue this is mainly caused by one of four reasons. The defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, the defrost timer all of these three can be checked by doing a continuity test on some units a defrost timer is not used and instead the use of an electrical control board is instead used also assure when you remove this panel that the fan behind that back wall in the freezer is also running if not replace the fan if you have no ice and the fan is working you would then look at the either the damper door on the inside of the refrigerator or the damper control. The freezer side of a refrigerator is the only side that produces the cold a small door opens and closes allowing the cold air to go into the refrigerator side when the unit gets to cold the door shuts and likewise when it gets to warm the door opens if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to help others in the future Thanks Rick

HSS25GFPA - freezer frosts over and the refridgerator section gets warm. Had a repair man who said the timer and heater had to be replaced, which he did, but it still does not work. I defrost it by hand...

did he show you the timer?i just looked up your machine and there's a computer board in it,there is no timer.check the defrost thermostat behind the freezer inside panel, also when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing, you could have a bad evap fan motor, look at the thermostat to see if the top looks like it's popping up,sometimes you can see this if the t-stat is bad or you can cut the wires on it and connect the wire to the heater, and look at your tech sheet should be behind the bottom kick panel to see how to put the machine into defrost,i think you push in the freezer lite switch 5 times or both the lite switches 5 times and see if the heater comes on,if it doesn't i'd read out the heater to make sure it's good,if it is change out the board part number WR55X10942,if you need more help let me know

Freezer works good, refrigerator does not get cold

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Freezer cold, fridge warm

Hi, You have a self defrosting problem.
Remove the rear inside freezer panel and check continuity on the defrost element and bi-metal switch. The bi-metal has to be tested cold. If there is continuity on both parts, you will need to change the defrost timer.
The most common part that goes bad is the element. I hope this helps you. Please leet me know if I can assist you further.

Freezer is frosted in back Refrigerator is warm

The problem is the defrost system located behind the freezer back panel.

The defrost system (AKA evap. system) is composed by an heating coil, a fan , and a defrost thermostat, and its function is avoiding ice formation on coil.
When defrost system is defective the fridge wont cool down properly

In your fridge , either evaporator fan, thermostat or heating element is faulty, and the ice on coils is preventing the appliance from cooling down properly.

Fridge problem

you have a defrostion issue reed to remove the back panel in the freezer behind this panel is the evaperator coil needs to be melted down because it is full of ice and frost, ahair drier will work well, put several towells down under the bottom of the evaperator to catch water runoff, after defrosting the coil inspect the defrost heater or heaters some of these can have one or two heaters the heaters are located behind metal gaurds in the evaperator if either of the heaters are bad (both)need to be replaced, if they show good then bad defrost timer or bad defrost termination thermastat wiring diagram behind frount bottom grill

Freezer/fridge won't get cold enough

Madezmom, you have a defrost issue. If your model starts with 106 you more than likley have a bad defrost bi-metal, I will attach a picture of bad one. This sits on the evaporator in the freezer section behind the panel. You will have to remove the shelves and remove the back panel. Defrost the evaporator completely. The part number for the bi-metal is 2196155. See if yours is bulged like the one in the attached photo. If so, that's your problem..Catriver..post back.
