Question about Fax Machines

Have a Staples SPL-XC200d Paper Shredder. The 'add oil' light is on...but have added oil repeatedly. Does not need more oil. Have also unplugged overnight, thinking that would 'reset' the computer, no such luck. Shreds okay..just the 'add oil' is annoying. Any suggestions?

I have the same shredder, and was wondering where you add the oil and what type you use? Would mineral oil work? I lost the manual, and I can't find any info online. Did you resolve your issue with the "add oil" light?

I have the same problem. When I try to follow the instructions, the menu prompts with a "Maintain" button, but it also happens to be the same button used for ON/OFF. When I press the button, the unit turns itself off, but does not reset the lubrication count.

Another mystery is that the "Lubricate" button does not seem to have a function. I tried using it instead of the "Maintain", but still no effect.

Son of a gun, the 5 second rule is the key. Thanks.

I use shredder lubricant sheets from Staples. Just run them through.

After you have added the shredder oil, you have to hold down the "Lubricate" button for about 5 seconds. This resets the counter and it will remind you to add oil when you have gone through about 250 more pages. Note: holding down the "Lubricate" button for 5 seconds will reset the counter and make the message disappear whether you add the oil or not, but it is highly recommended that you use the oil.

I found a the pdf manual on the Staples website. It has information about the maintenance of the shredder

    Here is the link:
    http://www.product-support-staples.com/P...

    Quote from the manual:
"MAINTAIN will illuminate on the LCD after approximately 250 operations. Add the Staples recommended lubricant listed below. Shredder lubricants are recommended for your shredder and will lengthen the lifespan of your machine. Apply lubricants, then press the maintain button. This will reset the counter."

You just need to push and hold the maintain button until the oil light goes off.

Shredder works in reverse, but not forward.

It's most likely a jam or a blocked sensor. With the shredder unplugged, try removing all small pieces of paper with a pair of tweezers or tiny flathead screwdriver. Also, try spraying the shredder with a can of compressed air to blow out any small pieces of paper or dirt that could be blocking the sensor.

My shredex Brute 340 will reverse but will not shred. Can you help?

Hi, try this;

Move the power switch to AUTO (l) position and depress the manual forward button for five seconds to clear paper blockage.

Make sure the paper is engaging the sensor located in the center of the shredder opening.

Regards.

Not a problem yet. Does this shredder require any oiling of the components? If so where and how?

Well considering your question about a shredder is posted under "fax machines" you have a problem...if it was/is a shredder then I would suggest that you occassionaly put some shredder oil on a sheet of paper and shred the sheet of paper to get oil into the cutting teeth....but if its a fax machine then oil on the paper will make a real mess if you put it into the fax. So I hope you know what kind of machine you have 'cause I'm not real sure.

Papper jam

Try adding a lube, such a WD40, it may reduce the friction enough to break free. Spray it above and below and as needed during the operation.
Work the jam back and forth, removing what you can as it pops out, power off the machine before reaching into the blades.

Hope this helps

Don't know how to oil or which oil to use.

Best Bet is yo go to your local office supply store. They will have special packasegs of Lubricating Sheets that you run thru the shredder as though it were paper. No fuss, No muss.

My mailmate shredder from Staples has jammed and I can't figure out how to unjam it.

unfortunately you will have to do it by hand!!!!!!!!

unplug, get a flat head screwdriver, take off top and turn upside down. you will see a lot of sredded paper where the teeth are, you need to clear all of that.
it may also be that you have a stale or something of that nature blocking the teeth.
Also do a reverse, I did one over the weekend and had to do it several times while cleaning it out, very messy so make sure you do it somewhere that you can easily clean up, also don't forget you are supposed to use a special lube paper once in a while. (Office Depot,/Max/Staples
