Question about Canon PowerShot S1 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon S1- Camera doesn't save the pictures - What to do ???

I used my camera for a while... It was OK.
About a month ago, I took a lot of pics. when I came home, only some pics were in the memory card while other disappeared (without deleting them).
I thought maybe there was some error.
last week, again I took some pics, and some videos, and it only saved the first video.
then I thought maybe there is a definition I changed without notice.

No, it,s free. It's just that your answers are from hobbyists and knowitalls who reply when they have the time to stop by here (it's like Yahoo answers, but with geeks:).

Sounds like your memory card may be faulty. Take no more pics until you've recovered the missing photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for (recommend the last one listed):
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/recovering-those-accidentally-lost.html

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Acard+reader&sort=price

And finally, recommend formatting the card in the camera after you've recovered the pictures. Look for a "Low Level" format option in the camera's menus. The format should help prevent this from happening again.

Pictures completely dark. memory card ok. batteries ok. display of saved pics ok. Have reset defaults.

It's most likely a dead CCD or stuck shutter inside the lens. CCDs use to die on this camera - factory fault. You should contact Canon - they used to offer a free replacement of the CCD.

Hope this helps!

Bad image

This is  a CCD sensor problem and you will have to have it replaced by Canon. You are in luck, though, because Canon will repair this fault free of charge ( see enclosed pic of a ccd sensor from a Canon camera ).9336fd3.jpg

Blank black screen for my canon powershot S1 IS digital camera

This is a common problem with S1 IS and it is caused by faulty CCD sensor. Note that you can playback captured images without any problem but in capture mode all you get is blank screen. Will have to go to Canon but note that Canon repairs these models free of charge when it is the CCD sensor that stops working.

I had the same problem with my camera a year ago and I took it in for service and they repaired it. I'm sorry but I don't remember what the problem was. It cost me about $90 for the service.
