Sometimes the contactor get welded shut. shut off the power to the outside and inside units. Go outside and remove the electrical cover. There will be a big black switch looking thing inside. (The electrical supply lines will connect to it). Some off these switches are open and some are not. If the switch is open just make sure it is pulled out. You can do this by pushing in on the button. If the switch has a cover on it, remove the top, with a Phillips screwdriver. Then proceed as above. If the contactor is pulled in pull it out with a pair of pliers. The unit will likely start functioning properly for a little while but the switch will need replaced as quickly as you can.

I have a new Rheem heat pump. The cooling works fine but won't blow hot air in HEAT setting. I have reset the breakers for heat pump and air handler, changed filters and pulled batteries and reset the...

if this is indeed a heat pump you rthermostat should also have a emergency heat setting does it work on that setting... a heat pump on heat wuns the outside unit and has a recersing valve that changes the refigerant flow ..is the outside runnignduring heat mode... if you turn the thermostat in emergency heat the outside should shut down and indoor heat should come on...of this is not happening you have a wiring issue if both are not working... braeburn thermostats usually have behind the cover dip switches... i am not exactly sure what model this is but if indeed a heat pump the thermostat should have a r,w2,y,e,g,c,o,and b terminal... rheem wiring should be as follows
red to r white to w2 , g=green , yellow to y terminal there should be a wire hooked to the b terminal usually brown sometimes orange on the b terminal that is your reversing valve terminal.
you are going to have to make sure the thermostat is configured to energize the b termianl and will have to go into the installer setup to do this...hopefully you still have the paper work on thermostat... most heat pumps use the o terminal for reversing valve but rheem uses the b terminal
hope this helps out some repost with anymore probs...also make sure the switches are set to electric or gas whatever you have heat pump or not etc. inside thermostat

Want to replace a T874R1434 thermostat with aux heat with a visionpro th8000. Have a blue wire connected to the B terminal on old thermostat and what looks like a brown wire connected to the X terminal on...

Its kinda difficult to know exactly what the wires could go to considering its all in the way the technician decided to hook them up and everybody has different ideas. I can tell you the most common use of the colors and see if that helps. Depending on how many wires your system has,
Red=Power
White=Heat
Yellow=Cooling/AC
Green=Fan
Blue=Common/Ground
Brown=Heat

Black and Orange wires alternate a lot with different HVAC techs, but usually go to a heat pump system outside.

The best way to get a grip on what wires go where is to look inside the furnace and see where they go. If you have a electrical board, it gets a lot easier, and the back of the furnace door usually has wiring diagrams that are pretty up front about the wiring. Just keep in mind that the wires could have been changed from the thermostat to the furnace, but you can usually tell if the wires seem different. Hope this helps some and good luck!

After RTH6400 installation heat strip is no longer actuated

http://yourhome.honeywell.com/Consumer/Cultures/en-US/Products/Thermostats/Do-It-Yourself/Programmable/5-1-1/Default.htm look at the very last part of thius page and you will see that the particular thermostat does not work for heat pumps tha have auxillary heat. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news but you need to upgrade the selection to make it work right.

Heat pump blows heat half the time and cold half the time

It sounds like it is just going into the defrost cycle. Go outside and see if it is iced up. If it is, it reverses itself to melt the ice. Heat strips should come on if unit has them

Manual Thermostat replcaement with Programmable Digital unit.

Hopefully there are markings on the old t-stat as to what terminal is what.
on the honeywell 8000 use the heat pump labeling and then the standard wiring would be
R- red
AUX-white
Y- yellow
B- O/B
C- black
G- green
There should not be a bare wire, it probably just has the insulation stripped back way too far.
You should probably open the furnace and compare the terminal label in the furnace to the wire color. normally yellow and blue pass through the furnace and are wire nutted to wires going to the outdoor unit. In the furnace the white wire will connect to the w or w1 terminal. also, you will need to set the Honeywell stat to have the following parameters.
170-7
190-1
200-0
other parameters that I did not specify, you may read the manual and make your own decision but I recommend factory settings for the other parameters

Intertherm heat pump

FIRST YOUR OUTSIDE UNIT PROVIDES HEAT BY USING A REVERSING VALVE TO CHANGE THE REFRIGERANT FLOW.THERE IS NO HEAT STRIPS OUTSIDE SECOND YOUR EMERGENCY HEAT TURNS ON ELECTRIC ELEMENTS INSIDE YOUR AIRHANDLER UNIT.IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE HAS WIRED YOUR UNIT WRONG OR HAS THE THERMOSTAT SET IMPROPERLY.WHEN THE HEAT PUMP CANNOT SATTISFY THE SETPOINT THE THERMOSTAT IS SUPPOSED TO TURN ON YOUR ELEC. HEAT UNTILL THE LOAD HAS BEEN REACHED AND THE HEAT PUMP CAN CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN IT.
