If the bowl is level the tank should be level. It doesn't really matter if it is a little off level, unless your having flush problem, and no you definitely don't want to shim it. The problem may be that one tank bolt is tighter than the other. Note: Be careful when messing with the bolts. If on is too lose you can tighten it, but if you try to loosen one you risk breaking the seal between the tank and the bowl.

Why is tank wobbly upon install on kohler archer toilet?

The tank mounting bolts could be loose or the tank could be incorrectly seated. Be careful not to tighten the bolts too much and crack the tank.

Kohler one piece toilet. it is leaking around the bottom of the toilet but if I put the water in the back of the tank myself, it doesn't leak

if its leaking from bottom of toilet on the floor. its the wax ring that may be bad, if it does this when flushing it is either cracked or the wax ring under toilet is bad.

When I put the tank on and tightened the 3 bolts I had a leak on the right bolt but the tank was level. So I tightened it up and stopped the leak but it isn't level anymore

This happens when the floor is not level. You need to keep the tank tight to the bowl. Silicone a shim under the lid on the low side to make the lid level. This will make the tank look level also

Hi patty oliver...
I agree with your husband, it sounds like a hair line crack in the tank.
One thing to check:
Check to make sure the tank in level while it is attached to the base of the commode.
If it is not, then it can cause a leak at the edge of the tank by the water by-passing the seal of the tank to the commode and running to the edge of the tank giving it the appearance of the tank is leaking.
Wipe up all the water you can and see for sure if the water is coming from the edge of the tank, if so then you may need to replace your tank.
Or you could dry your tank very good and try to seal the hairline crack with silicone sealant and let it set overnight then reinstall to see if the leak has stopped.

Basically, if water is flowing out of the overflow tube, then water must be coming in...I would suggest that you check the intake valve, it is probably not shutting off completely when the float comes up to the prescribed level, and continues to leak some water into the tank. That is what the overflow tube is there for.

Recently installed Toto toilet by a qualified plummer(twice) it still rocks side to side and back and forth. Floor is level. Toto Toilet Aquia11

Qualified? Plumber? sounds like it needs to be shimed, because not all floors are exactly level,or castings of toilets exactly perfect.Doesn't sound like the handyman knows what he's doing.Shims available at home depot--plastic-don't shim with wood-it will rot.I've used various coins to get right thickness.Be careful tightening bolts, you'll crack bowl.Find a legit plumber licensed

Toilet is unstable with respect to the floor. it rocks when you get on and off it.

It needs to be shimed, either floor uneven or casting is not uniform. It is a problum most people don't understand.Toilets when set need to be leveled if not you can break bowl.Go to home depot and in plumbing dept. ask for plastic shims-come in little bag,tap under toilet and then snug down bolts,(don't reef on bolts)when shes tight take flat head screwdriver and hammer and chop off shim flush. You should take dap tub and tile caulk (water soulible) and dap around bottom-keep wiping sponge with clean water around till it looks nice let set up for 12-24 hours, toilet should be rock solid. If by chance its leaking around base you'll have to reset with new wax Richie

Turn off the water at the valve going to the tank of the toilet. The valve is normally located half way between the tank and the floor, on a pipe leading to the tank. The water in the bowl will last over a week and should not be a problem. Good luck, I hope this helps Please rate me, Thanks
