Question about Bialetti Moka Express 3-Cup Espresso Machine

Corrosion on my Bialetti Moka stove-top

The last time I cleaned my Bialetta I must not have dryed it well enough, the result, white fur and the funnel is corroded right through. I am not blaming the manufacturer it is my fault.
However after cleaning the base it is pitted inside and still stinks despite my best efforts. Am I therefore better buying a new pot altogether and ditching the old one or do I try further to get rid of the stink, I realise the pitting is there for ever, and also buy a new funnel?

You can buy a new one or Google "Bialetti parts".

SOURCE: Handle of Bialetti Moka Express 10 cup...

There is a tiny pin at the top where the handle slides into a slot between 2 aluminum walls. That pin needs to be "punched" out. I used a nail and hammer, but a tiny nail punch might be safer if you have one.

My Moka Easy Bialetti electric espresso maker switches off before all the water has been percolated through into the upper pot. I have recently replaced the rubber seal etc. at the base of the pot.

I emailed support at Bialetti and here is what I got:

Check the coffee funnel for any dents around the edge of the funnel. Normally if this brewing problem happens after changing a gasket the problem is a dent or the funnel is out of round and the new gasket isn't formed to it like the old gasket was. Don't bang the funnel to get grounds out or it may dent or get out of round. Try pulling the funnel over to one side in the water chamber and if you see a space on one side pull it tight with the other finger to bend back into shape if possible or replace the part.

Take the gasket and filter plate out from under the upper unit and hold the filter plate up to the light to check for any clogs right in the center where the coffee brews up. You should be able to see through all the holes in the filter, brush clean if needed

Sat on the stove and did nothing! Fire the credent!!!Is the water getting hot enough? Here is an idea, take it back to the store and get a dufferent model, or a straight across echange.I have a notion to buy one just to take it apart and see whats going on, There are so many on this forum I don't knpw whythey are bothered wirh. No offense to your preference and good taste but if twas and seriously fond of expresso, buy one at a t a restaraunt supply store. I'm sorry that was not an answer abd I know those machines are way over priced. It is frustrating me and I don't care for expresso myself. Take it bake and raise cain over it.. Expired warrantee or not. Send me a copy of the receipt and I'll write or call the manufacturer myself. Let me have their phone number, also. Ned Cook

Coffee has started becoming weak

Basing on personal experience (you can find more on Google probably), solutions are:

On percolated (filter) coffee machines:

Check water temp, if water temp is insufficient , most common is scale heating element , faulty element, faulty thermostat.
Check if water is dripping right at the center of the filter, if it is dripping on one side because the orifice is clogged, that can result in weak coffee.
Coffee blend not well distributed on filter basket.

On Espresso machines:

Check water temp, same as filter coffee machines (thermostat element, scale on heating chamber).
Ensure that coffee is filled correctly in the filter cup (fill at level), and well pressed.
Ensure that the coffee mixture that you are using is not too coarse, buy the apposite one for espresso.
Ensure that you are not leaving the machine brewing for a time that is too long, and Italian coffee cup is very small, approximately one regular shot.

On the hob moka pots (espresso, Moka and Bialetti type):

This are the trickiest ones, you need art and practice to get a good espresso with a Moka, but when you learn, the result is better than what you may get with an home electrical espresso maker.
The frame on the hob must be not too strong, and the mixture coarse but well pressed, with water at level tag, or you will get a weak coffee.
On Mokas a good strategy is keeping hob at minimum, and turning up the flame at top when coffee starts coming out.

French and turkish cafetieres:

Ensure that you put enough coffee, water hot enough, and that you left the infusion enough time to get a strong coffee.

Note: insufficient pressure and clogged lines on electric machines never give you a weak coffee, exactly the opposite.
Not pressed mixture always gives weak coffee, but too much pressed mixture may give you coffee with bad taste.

Try a lower flame and screw the top to the bottom as tightly as possible.

Espresso irregularly spurts out the center post

It IS the gasket!!!!! Store the pot with the two parts screwed TIGHTLY together for about a week. Tighten it up as the new gasket compresses. Problem solved in two weeks or less. Funnel had NOTHING to do with my problem. Also cook on medium to low heat. High flame seems to make the problem worse.

I just had this same problem and after reading this blog I went downstairs, tightened the pot down more and it worked! I usually don't tighten it this much, but will continue to tighten it down hard until the gasket is broken in. Thank you sooooooo much!!!

Bialetti sputtering after gasket replaced

Flame is too high and the top is not screwed tightly enough to the bottom. Also make sure there is enough fine ground coffee in the funnel.
