Question about HP Officejet J5780 All-In-One Printer

Printer will not print. Out of paper/ clear carraige jam errors

I tried to print a paper. Made a paper jam. I canceled the print then I waited for the printer stop and slowly pull the paper from the exit feed. (found out later you are not suppose to do that)

So, after that my printer began giving me error messages "clear carriage jam". Nothing was in the back, rollers work just fine. No little bits of paper between rollers. I restarted the printer then a different came up "Out of paper". I have good enough paper in there. So I restarted it again. Error message went back to " clear carraige jam". That day I was able to print a paper. But trying to print another one, it went to one of those errors.

Ive looked at the boards and I cleared my ink bay from all the spoilage from the ink. I thought that was a problem. but still nothing...

ive partial restart and did the semi restart (# + 3) & (#+ 6)

Still errors kept coming up. what else can I do?

My MP510 was just printing fine then went to rear feed and now all I get is a flashing green and yellow lights


review this to determine your problem.. If all else fails simply unplug your printer wait a minute and plug back in.

Handling Error Messages


When a printer error occurs, the POWER/ERROR lamp flashes.
The number of flashes indicates the type of error that has occurred.

Count the flashes and take the appropriate
action to correct the error.

It say carriage jam


Hi friend,

What probably happened is that paper jam caused the carraige alignment sensor to get out of place or to get covered, moved, etc and the printer doesn't know what to do...

What I would suggest trying is, unplug the printer, try pulling the carraige out to the center and then close it and plug it back in, see if this kicks it enough to reset itself.

When i turn my printer on the light flashes green once and then orange 5 times. cannot get past this stage - any ideas?


Here are all the flashing explanations:

Two flashes: Out of paper or paper feed error

Reload the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Three flashes: Paper jam

If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, reload the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Four flashes: Empty ink tank

If you press the RESUME/CANCEL button, it will continue printing with an empty ink tank. After printing is finished, replace the ink tank immediately. If you continue printing with an empty ink tank, it may cause damage to your printer.

Refer to your Quick Start Guide for instructions on how to replace an ink tank.

Five flashes: No print head installed/Defective print head

Install the print head. Also, ensure that the protective tape has been removed.

If reinstalling the print head does not solve the problem, replace it with a new one. Contact the Customer Care Center.

Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full

Canon S 520 doesn`t print


Two flashes: Out of paper, paper jam or paper feed error
Replace the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam and press the RESUME/CANCEL
button.

Three flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, replace the paper in the printer
correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Four flashes: Empty ink tank
One of the ink tanks is empty. Replace it.

Six flashes: No print head installed
Install a print head.

Seven flashes: Defective print head
Remove and reinstall the print head.
Also, ensure that the protective tape has been removed. If reinstalling the print head
does not resolve the problem, replace it with a new one.

Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight
flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL

Won't print


The printer might still be in manual feed mode. I just had the same problem and forgot that I had set it up to print on manual feed for a project. Try inserting a page in the feed slot and see if that helps.
