I have a 6 month old Geobook NB-60 which has just started losing the
bottom half of the picture on its display. Not being familiar with LCD
technology, I don't know what's going on, but the bottom half of the
screen has vertical white lines going through it. If you leave it on, the
picture improves and gradually becomes normal, but it seems to be taking
longer and longer each time I start it up.
What's broken? and where do I get this thing fixed?

This happened to me too... The it didn't affect me too much because I use an
external monitor 99% of the time. I found that put ting the screen at different
angles helped. The problem only got worse so I took it into get repair on
Monday... I still don't know what the problem is...

Ellen,
Maybe nothing is broken, but it is difficult to say.
IMO, familiar or not with the technology, it's not up to the customers of
Brother products to fix this type of problem. Brother products are targeted
to the mass, therefore to non-technology-aware people. That's why the
GeoBook uses the Geos OS and applications which are easier to use than the
Windows environment.
That's also why my wife is still using NDO and her Geos-based Zoomer, which,
in that sense, is similar to the GeoBook.
Obviously, you should return it to the retail store where you bought it.
IMHO, this should be covered by the warranty, at no cost for you, unless you
let the GeoBook fall on the floor or if you twisted the screen too much.
Sorry to be of no "technological help".
Philippe.

Sounds like the screen is broken. I would call Brother's 800 support
number and see what they say. I've heard that they're pretty
responsive.

Hi!
1) Did you place something that generates heat on the Geobook
cover when it is closed?
For example, if you place the power supply on top of the
cover of the Geobook when you charge the battery this will
happen. This because it generates heat and will warm up the
liquid crystal in the screen. I know because I had this kind
of problem myself on a laptop (not Geobook). The solution is
to take away the thing that gererates heat. The problem will
disappear when the temperature goes back to normal.
2) The screen or the electronics is broken. Contact Brother for help.
Check www.brother.com. Go to the US-pages. There you will find
information.
Best regards,
Hans Lindgren
