Question about Frigidaire FRT18G6J Top Freezer Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My refridgerator is not keeping things cool like it should. I have tried turing it up but it does not get any cooler. Also in the back top right hand corner there is a hole that apparently is part of the hook-up for an ice maker. The hole was covered with a sticker when new but the sticker was removed. Could that be part of my problem along with the heat of the summer ?

If that hole goes all way through back of unit to inside freezer, and it is open, yes it should be closed up.

SOURCE: Frigidare FRS23KF6CB manufactured 03/07 ice maker water fill wont shut off

There is a float in the icemaker which controls water height. I'm going to bet the float is jammed or the switch it controls is bad.

How do I know whether a thermoelectric cooling system is better for me than a compressor?

This depends on several factors: how much wine you keep on hand, where you will be putting the cooler (cool/warm room in the house) and if you are buying a freestanding cooler/built-in. If you never have more than two cases, plan on keeping the cooler somewhere it won't get too warm and you want a freestanding cooler, you should look into purchasing a thermoelectric cooling system.

Hello,
That condenser fan motor needs to be replaced. You and doing the right thing as far as using a seperate fan to keep compressor cool, buy replacing the fan the compressor will run cooler and click off by being too hot as you have heard/seen.

Find your model number and call your local appliance parts store and see if they have a CONDERSER FAN MOTOR in stock

MAYTAG REFRIDGERATOR NOT COOLING

Check to see if the evaporator fan is blowing. Sometimes removing the back panel to expose the fan and hand turning it can make it come back on. If this doesn't work then the fan is bad. Also make sure that there is good circulation to the fridge side. Food can sometimes block air flow.

Some compressors are designed to be externally cooled some are not.
They have to process the refrigerant to certain pressures to operate correctly.
The specific condenser and expansion device do the rest.
By cooling a compressor artificially you make it work harder to do its' job.
Cooler is not always better.

Not cooling

First check to see if compressor is running. If compressor is running and no cool, then you might have a loss of freon in the system. If it's not running, it might be electrical or a sensor telling it not to turn on. Let it sit unplugged for an hour to see if it can reset.

Grease most likely dried up on one cooling motor. If the motor hasn't burned up, you can try to re-oil the motor. Sometimes they have an oil slot on back, then spin by hand until it becomes free. Be careful not to get your hand caught in the blade when running.
Good Luck and Hope you fix it!
