Question about Computers & Internet

3 Answers

I bought a used Toshiba Satellite P35-S6292 laptop. Installed good hard drive, memory, fixed power inlet, and cleaned the heat sink. Started up and runs fine. Problem: "NO" sound at all except from fans. Any suggestions? Jim J.

My problem is not bios and drivers. I have reinstalled them 3 times and I even installed a new XP Home on a new HD which installs everything. All to no avail. It must be a motherboard or hardware problem with the sound device.

It maybe is a hardware problem but let's try all the possible cases. I want you to check 2 things for me.
    1. Right click my computer - Properties - Hardware - Device manager. Do you see any exclamation mark or question mark under sound devices?
    2. Get into bios (press del while the system is starting up at the black screens before the windows start up). Try to locate audio device and set it on enable mode (usually it's under the hardware tab or accesories or peripheral or something like that) Also note what is the hardware chipset (cmedia, realtec e.t.c.)
    Reply me the details.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

there is no mention in the bios of sound or hardware defices. This is a toshiba satellite p35-s6292 laptop and you press F2 to get into the bios.

i went into computer properties and there was no kind of mark under or around any of the items under sound or system devices.

Jim, sorry I forgot your laptop is Toshiba so F2 is the key to get into bios. Anyway you've got my point. Have you checked for audio using a pair of headphones or external speakers? The internal speakers may have been dead.

I think you have right. If you insist on using this laptop you can try with one small external USB audio card (take a look at these).

This is due to not having required sound drivers
The simple way of obtaining drivers if you are un-sure on the model of sound card, Then you can download Driverscanner from Uniblue.com
and scan for all missing drivers and Download the required drivers
It's useful software and will make sure all drivers missing are installed and they are kept upto date.
However if you can locate the sound card model/make you can go to the manufactures website and download the required drivers free of charge.

yes you are missing the required drivers

U cannot install random drivers, Just because you know the make
there are specific models, Please download Uniblue Driver scanner
Which will download the exact drivers Required

Make sure you uninstall any sound drivers first before running driver scanner
so you are sure it gets fresh drivers.

  • amfriction Jul 30, 2010

I hope you are working for Uniblue. I installed ir paid them $29.95 and ran a scan. It said all drivers were ancient, as I suspected it would, a gimmick for idiots, so I downloaded all updates and installed them to "NO" avail also as I suspected. Now I am $29.95 poorer and still have a laptop with no sound.

No i do not work for uni-blue However I use there driver scanner on many of my computers,
Make sure you Uninstall any sound card drivers Then run a scan So that way the invalid drivers are removed, soon as you update drivers they will work again,

Hi,

  • Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.
  • Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.
  • If you had the operating system installed already then click on start >> go to run and type devmgmt.msc >> under sound, video and controller or under others check if you see any name related to your sound card. Example : realtek, if you do then right click on it and click uninstall and then restart your computer.
Good Luck!

HI I Have a toshiba p100 laptop. i have had to re-install using recovery disc, the computer would start then shut down. with computer connected to external monitor it runs throught start up then ' say's...

I have the same computer. Recently, it started shutting down without noticed after an hour use, sometime earlier after heavy use. I did a Google search and find out that some Toshiba has overheating problem, and it was recommended to clean it the heat sink. If that is dirty the heat can not escape. I used a vacuum cleaner to **** out the dirt. It worked after so far.
A year ago, I had an other problem, I upgraded the memory, I used the Vista memory test. It did not reported errors. It became unstable, it would run for weeks without problem when for no reason would give file read errors, and all kind of problems,... So I created a bootable USB drive with memtes on it. My Toshiba booted to a linux op. and run the "memtest". It reported error on my newly installed memory. ... I used the recovery disk to have a clean start.
Also, during those times and sometime after, I've got those message, your window can be start, do you want to rollback to a previous point. Many time that message can be ignored, and just persist to start Window normally. Eventually it will, (if you know that your memory is working). I hope this helped.

Why have 1 colerfull line on my screen???

This could be one of three things

It could be the LCD Panel malfunctioning, the cable to the monitor has come loose or the video controller is malfunctioning.

Either way, this is not something you are going to be able to fix on your own. Your best option is to Contact Toshiba about warranty repair or bring it to a computer repair shop in your city.

P35 S6112 LAN WIRELESS IS NOT WORKING

STEVELAMBERT,
Double check your wifi switch position by taking a small flat head screw driver, and pop it loose and see if the post to the wifi switch is broken, if not properly reseat the wifi switch over the post. If that does not correct the issue, open the memory cover and reseat your wifi card.
