Question about Compaq Presario V4000 Notebook
Posted by Anonymous on
Most likely you have either lost the inverter or the ccfl backlight bulb has burned out. The inverter would be the easiest and cheapest solution. The inverter sits behind the lcd panel under the bezel. With the V4000 series, all you have to do is remove the rubber bumpers around the screen and then remove the screws underneath. Once the screws are removed, pry the bezel up and away from the edge of the screen and work your way around the screen and remove the bezel. The inverter sits under the LCD panel and has two connections, one on either end. Inverters can be bought on Ebay for less than 25 bucks.
Now, since there is a chance that the screen itself maybe bad...check all your connections. Since you can still see the display and make out the data, the data cable still works. Since the screen is dark, there maybe the possiblility that the ccfl bulb has either broken or burned out. In this case it will be necessary to replace the screen. Try the inverter first, it's the most cost effecient and it usually the problem child.
