There is really not a way to tell what is on the disk other than to use it If the recovery disks works OK, you can always add SP3..
Note: the Windows XP Recovery Disk is not a general recovery disk for ANY computer, but it is developed for a certain brand and model. It includes the drivers for the hardware as well.
If you have the recovery disk for the brand and model it came from, you should be OK.
