Hi there,

Well first of all you can check Door switch - check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.
A door switch is a simple on/off mechanism that prohibits the microwave from operating when the door is open. Microwave door switches are only an inch long. Most are black in color and all have metal prongs, called terminals, extending out from the body of the switch. Microwave door switches are normally mounted to a bracket near the door latch. Also, microwaves usually have three or four door switches. There is a latch (sometimes referred to as a hook) attached to the inside of your microwave door that comes in contact with and activates the door switch when the door is closed. Examine this prong first. You may not be experiencing any problems with your door switch. Perhaps the latch on the inside of your microwave door is missing or damaged, leaving it unable to activate the door switch.
Using caution, remove all wiring harness leads from the switch's terminals. Be aware that some door switches may have a locking clip keeping the harness from coming loose. In this case, there is a protruding lever which must be depressed while the harness is gently pulled away from the terminal. You need to use a multimeter to check the door switch, please post comments for further help or information..........

Good Luck!!

OK- there three switches. the top and bottom switches electrically close and the center one opens. all were checked by me with a multimeter with the pad removed and the door closed. in an online manual, a 20 amp fuse was associated with that center switch but i don't know where it is or what type it is. could that be the problem? The lite does go out when the door closes.

Oven has power, but will not turn on

It sounds like the door is seriously out of alignment preventing the door latch from engaging properly. The hinges can be loosened and the door can be adjusted to some extent.

R-1481 start button won't work

I have a r-1482 model so I don't know how close they will be. The biggest issue I found so far with my particular model, yours my be the same, is the door safety micro switches fail primarily from opening the door while the unit is in the process of cooking which causes them to arc and burn the contacts resulting in premature failure. With an ohm meter, check the resistance of the contacts of each switch individually with the COM terminal lug temporarily removed and ensure the closed resistance is 0 ohms and infinity when the contacts are open. Measure from the COM terminal to the terminal in use either N.O. or N.C., with the switch button NOT depressed the N.O. will be open while the N.C. will be closed and with the button depressed they will be opposite, in other words N.O. will be closed and N.C. will be open. Another thing to check is that the door hooks aren't broken (they activate the safety switches. Should you remove the switch bracket to replace the micro switches, make sure you wire the switches exactly the way they were COM to COM, NC to NC & NO to NO, mount them in the bracket the exact way they were and adjust the bracket so that the switch buttons are just to the point of being fully depressed and no more when the door is fully closed. The micro switches may be different in model numbers but you can sub with a micro switch that has all three COM, NC, NO terminals and only use the terminals in use for the given switch. I used Omron p/n: D3V-16G-1C25-K from Mouser Electronics (800) 346-6873. Since you didn't indicate the control panel was not operational I won't go into that area. I can't say if the timer will count down or not if the micro switches are bad, but it's a possibility, further pointing to the switches. If the control panel or MW tube is bad it's my recommendation to buy a new oven, though you can get new MW tubes, diode & capacitor, it's not worth the shocking experience to the human body, not to mention the MW radiation.
Good luck if you still have the oven and decide to take it one step further.

JennAir Microwave works perfectly but won't quit running.

One or two of the micro switches have failed, you will need a professional to remedy the situation.

The microwave wont respond to the timer. It keeps cooking unless you open the door. After the timer runs out it seems like it cuts off but there is still a low buzzing sound and it is still cooking. Have...

low buzzing can be a power relay or a (solid-state)
triac which both supply power in their own right to the power transformer to operate the magnetron tube, even though you say it quits cooking when you open the door,i would still check the micro-switches in the door for proper alignment and operation, because it can be a door switch mis-alignment or a leaking triac still supplying power to the unit

Oven will not cook. turntable and fan will not operate, but light, timers controls all appear to operate. checked door seal and allignment and appear to be ok. oven is 4 days old. it stopped operating...

its a defective lower door interlock switch or a faulty relay or triac. First try again a pick up a little or push down a little on the door and see if it will work
