My daughter has an Amana side by side SRD 20S4W. Water/ice puddle on the inside bottom of the freezer section and periodically spill under the door and onto the floor. The problem started about a month ago. Is there a drain hole that I might be able to un-plug?

Yes there is. You will need to remove the back panel to acess it. Try using a turkey baster with warm water or a wire. After clearing mix a 50-50 baking soda water solution and run it down the drain, this will help prevent future clogs.

Ice keeps building up in bottom of freezer and on vent inside fridge and now fridge won't stay cold.

Clean the coil inside the rear access panel behind the unit with a spray air duster and check for this problem.

I just opened up the back of my Frigidaire Side by Side counter depth to find the drain hose was bent and collapsed coming right out of the bottom of the freezer and the pan was dry as a bone. It doesn't look like my drain hose has ever drained a drop of water. The freezer bottom is full of ice And the rust and chipping paint under the bottom of the freezer door along with the mysterious puddles of water every morning means the drain system definetely never worked. Frigidaire should be responsible for this. This, along with the ice maker rebuild I had to do,... after ice was spilling all through the fridge. I actually had warrantty left on that one and called customer support in India to find out I could make the repair myself. Yep I had to do it. Frigidaire you failed.

If you have an ice maker, check for a leak in the water line. If no ice maker, there could be a leak in the pan for the defrost water, or the drain hose is out of position. Also, check to see if the water is actually leaking out from the freezer door. That would indicate a clogged drain. The bottom inside the freezer may have water, or ice on it. If so, suspect the clogged drain.

Ice is forming on the bottom of the freezer (Kenmore).

Self-defrosting refrigerators dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle, usually via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates. (See a more detailed explanation of this in the How Things Work section of our website).

If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator/freezer compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator/freezer. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

Water puddling in bottom of freezer which freezes

Tool needed: Screw drive with the insert tips can be used to remove screws use the end of the screw driver with out a philips bit or flat tip inserted. Remove frozen food to camping coolers igloo ice chests or coleman ice chests or a freezer in your home . Remove all racks and baskets to expose movable panels at the inside back of the freezer compartment.
Notice the 1/4" hex nuts remove the screws holding the panels at the back wall. Clear built up ice carefully. You now can take out the panels and expose the fan and cooling cool that creates the cold temperature on the freezer side.

Near the bottom is an aluminum U shaped pan with a shallow funnel indentation at the bottom. Clear ice from the funnel pan and inside bottom carefully. Sharp objects break ice nicely and can pierce the interior surfaces . Look under the cooling coil and at the back wall is a screw holding this soft metal catch pan in place. Remove the screw and carefully tip and slid out the catch pan tray. You now have access to the drain hole that is frozen closed or clogged. Place a large towel in the bottom of the freezer area to catch water. Pour hot tap water a half cup at a time into the drain area. Do not use boiling water the plastic inside a refrigerator or freezer can not tolerate high temperature. I have melted a freezer compartment in a GE with a hair dryer. Remove the water with a clean reag and add more warm or hot water repeat until the drain allows water to flow. stop adding water or the evaporation pan under the refrigerator will over flow.
Check the refrigerator about once a year for the freezeup problem or keep an eye on the bottom of the freezer looking for the build up of water frozen on the inside floor. The other solution get a new refrigerator.
