Question about Dictaphone 2740 Desktop Cassette Transcriber / Recorder

1 Answer

Dictaphone MicWiz We use the MicWiz program to setup foot pedals for our remote transcriptionists to use on our GE Centricity system. For the first time, we are experiencing a problem with MicWiz not detecting the USB foot pedal. The USB option is not available (not even grayed out) when we run MicWiz on the transcriptionist PC. Other programs like Express Scribe detect the pedal, but not MicWiz. She is running Windows XP and everything appears normal. Do we need to install some other program or update any of the transcriptionist .dll files? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Catherine

Catherine, did you ever get an answer for your problem with MicWiz? I am a transcriptionist that works from home and they are having problems getting it to recognize my foot pedal (as well as another MT) with the new software. It is recognized by Express Scribe and ever other system we use, but not Merge.
Thank you, Cindy

I am sorry, I was not trying to post a solution - just another question. I think I did it incorrectly.

After mcafee did a recent update my GE Centricity 6.1 no longer works

Hi flatwaterman
I hope you have the GE Centricity 6.1 install disc , because you may need to delete and reinstall the program . Look in the settings of McAfee to unblock the firewall that is preventing your software to run smoothly . If the problem persists , delete and reinstall your software . If it still doesn't work , change your anti virus .
Best regards ,
fanaudi .

Foot pedal does not work for my Dictaphone model 2750 Where can I purchase a replacement

Make sure the foot pedal is plugged into the SIDE of the machine and not the BACK of the machine. I've seen many people make this mistake...

I am a transcriptionist who is remotely accessing a work computer

I looked a the Infinity IN-USB-1 foot pedal, thanks. I would go out and buy a second foot pedal for home then you can remote your work pc by using the foot pedal from home. Make sure you install the drivers for the foot pedal at your home pc. If this doesnt work, you can always take the pedal back to the store. I figure that If you took away your mouse from your home pc, you could not move your mouse on the work pc. It maybe the same with the pedal. Let me know if it works.

Foot pedal FF or Rewinds when pressing Play

It's possible that there's a broken wire in the cable that connects the foot control to the machine. This usually happens near the plug that plugs into the machine, or by the end that goes into the foot control.

You can usually duplicate it if you put the auto-backspace up a bit and then hold down the play pedal on the foot control. While holding down the play pedal, try moving the cable near the machine or near the foot control in a circular motion. If the machine stops, rewinds or fast forwards, then odds are that the problem is with the cable.

Dictaphone Expresswriter 2740 Tape Won't Move

The problem is with the capstan motor. More than likely it has developed a 'flat spot' and won't spin up. The clicking noise you hear is the solenoids trying to pull the heads into place, but because the motor isn't turning, it can't pull the heads into place.

Dictaphone foot pedal

It would be easier/cheaper to buy another foot pedal.
The older style had "leaf" switches in them and they are adjustable from below the foot control. There are 2 screws underneath each switch. Loosen up the one closer to the front of the pedal (just a little) and tighten the one in the back the same amount. This will raise the angle of the switch to make it more sensitive (lighter pressure to activate).

Pedal problems

If the tape re-winds when you take your foot off the pedal then the auto-rewind switch on the right side of the machine at the back is set to number 3. Move it forward to number 1 or 0. If it really does rewind while your foot is on the pedal then I don't know what is causing that. Sorry.
