Question about RCA P52939 52" Rear Projection Television
I recently went into the screen adjustments through the tv's menu to sharpen up the picture and clean up the colors. When I tried to adjust the green convergance, the green box it gave me was at an angle and not parallel with the sides of the screen. The blue and red cross-hairs are right, but because the green is skewed, it's impossible for me to get a good picture on all parts of the screen. Is there a way for me to rotate the box on the green convergance or is it an actual internal adjustment to the green can that needs to be made? If so, how hard would that be?
I also tried to get into the advanced convergance settings to try to get around the issue of the green being off, and found that my menu doesn't have that option, even though my manual says my model should have that. any ideas?? Thanks!
Sounds like a convergence amp failure. Depending on model, there may be 1 or 2 large Ics. Due to the delicate soldering involved, a tech should change these amps.Often the old part numbers have been upgraded, and small value resistors may need to be changed also.

Tips for a great answer:

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then yourconvergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
