If the power and the hard disk light are on and you can see a dim image on the LCD screen when you view it at a sharp angle, then most likely you have a backlight fault which is caused by a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. If they are dead pixels, and there is nothing you can do. Get it replaced. If it is a stuck pixel, then you can gently rub it or wait till is unfreezes. I would contact ASUS or vendor being that it's new.
To keep your screen in normal position Press Alt+CTRL+ arrow keys t depend which arrow key to press accorind to your screen, so try those arrow key one by one unless your screen will not in normal position)
this is a graphics card issue. you need to google search for a driver specifically for that tv resolution. Other options will be to check the tv can be set in computer mode. or change to wide screen option to enable the entire view to be seen. Have a play around its an easy fix.

Screen going black would indicate a data flow problem- but then you would see a warning saying words to this affect
or a back light/inverter problem.
If by looking slightly sideways at the sreen you can see 'shadow images'[try a moving image to be syre] then you have a backlight /inverter problem
If you see nothing at all ckecj the data cable pins- one or more may be bent
