Malfunction -turns on and message to return on

When I turn off the camera the lens stays extended. When turning it on the display screen appears normal and within a few seconds a message pops up to a white screen "PLEASE TURN CAMERA OFF AND THEN TURN ON AGAIN". Only difference is with Play mode I don't get the "Please Turn..." message. When camera is turned on lens retracts, then re-extends. Same thing happens when I turn on in Play mode then change to camera mode (also get the turn off & on message.

I had this problem on my DMC FX9. I turned it off removed the battery and charged the battery to full capacity then replaced it. The camera then started to work properly again. Can't promise it will work for you but its got to be worth a try. Regards, Andrew

The camera has a lens fault and needs to be checked by a panasonic repair technician.

When powering up my cyber-shot N50, the lens extends and retracts several times, then a message appears, "Turn the power off and on again" I can download to laptop, took battery out, charged up and put...

Hi,

The exact steps can be provided with the correct model #. The model # starts with "D". Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the SET UP1 Menu of the Camera to OK. This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks,

KenSolutions

The camera turns on then shuts back off again

hat type of problem is usually associated with a lens extend error.

It is usually caused by weak batteries or dropping the camera.

Keep your eye on the LCD screen when you turn the camera on.
Do you see any type of error message?

Now turn the camera on again and help the lens extend by gently pulling on the lens as it extends.
Does the camera stay on when you do that?

Camera shuts off even with new batteries

Hi,

"E18" indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover in your camera .This error appears where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting .The error may also be displayed if the lens camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if a foreign substance (i.e. liquid, sand, dirt) enters the camera.Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting. Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case.If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera off and then on again, or if the error code is displayed frequently, a camera malfunction may have occurred and might require service from canon.Or else try pressing the power button on and held it down while extending the zoom lens. The lens will extend out and the camera will be freed from the error.

Thank you !!

Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.
