GE Adora front load washer overloaded now won't start

I made the mistake of trying to put a queen size comforter into my front loading GE Adora. It refused to start - the "pause" button just kept blinking. I unloaded it and put in a regular sized load. Now it still won't start. The pause/start button just keeps blinking. I've tried to turn it on and off several times. I removed the clothes and put them back in. I turned the machine off at the circuit breaker. It still won't start. How can I get it to reset?

    Hi Dutchman,

Thanks for your help! I tried the circuit breaker again, but the washer still just blinks on the pause light.

I'm wondering....I had a hard time getting the door to close when I first overloaded the machine and it wouldn't start - the pause light just blinked when I'd push the start button and the door would pop back open in a few seconds.

The pause button is doing the same thing now with a new, smaller load and lots of time turned off. The door locks, but couldn't I have done something to it that I can't see?

No matter what I do, it seems convinced I still have that queen size comforter in there!

    Thanks for your help.

I gave up and called the repairman and he fixed the problem immediately. It turned out that the tip of the door lock had broken off. It was closing tight but couldn't lock. That's what was causing it to refuse to start. He replaced the door lock and now it runs great.

Just thought I'd post this in case some other desperate mom tries to stuff a queen size comforter into a double-size washer. Refuse the temptation and just don't do it.

Washers - Resetting Electronic Controls on a Washer

If there is a pause in the washer cycle, the controls will lock up. The pause can occur because of a power failure or it was put in the test mode at the factory.

Also, if the washer was stopped before the cycle was complete or the consumer has pushed the stop/pause button to temporarily stop the cycle and the cycle is not reset. Over a period of 24 hours, the washer will pump out and spin, but will stay in the final spin.

To correct the situation, shut off the circuit breaker for 30 seconds or unplug the washer, then turn the timer knob around and back to any position other than final spin. Verify the water is turned on and restore power. This should resolve the issue.

The wash stop in the middle while I'm washing a comforter and say e 10 how do I get it back on to spin the ware out of it instead of starting it over?

I have been managing apartment complexes for 3 years and have been troubleshooting washer/dryer problems. This is my best advice: Sounds like its overloaded. Take the comforter out and hang it to dry. Try starting the machine again to drain the water. You might have to manually remove the water. Try washing a medium-sized load to see if it was just over-full or if there are further things happening.

Ge front load washer model WSXH208A Will not spin

Mine kept stopping mid cycle also, pouring water on the floor, then the start/pause button flashed and the door unlocked. I found the solution to clean the lint filter on the GE Adora. Go to

I just did this and my washer is now running instead of the flashing start/pause and door unlocking. It was fairly easy. Make sure you have towels and a flat pan to catch the water if you don't have the machine on a riser. There may be water inside so a wet vac may be helpful too. Once my washer finishes what was in it, I have these funky towels to clean. You'll be very surprised what you find in the filter! Best of luck!

Size of washer

Size varies between manufactures, the biggest I have seen is the GE which is 3.5 cu ft, base your machine on your standard size load, ours is about 8lbs however I dont overload, I take large items quilts, comforters etc to a laundromat, its not worth breaking my machine over a comforter wash for $3.50 American.

Go to and look @ the washers available
