Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

My GE stove model #JBP35D0J1CC serial #VG231035Q is about 21/2 to 3 years old. When useing the self cleaning the oven door and window get a burnt splatter and thick black tar like build up you cant clean this off and only a small amount of the grey ash is in the bottom of the oven this is not the first time this has happen . We had a service person out and he really had no answer and replaced the window when he was unable to clean off any of the glass or door. Any ideas as to the cause of this or how to clean up. The door is the onlt place that gets this splatter and what looks like something dripping down the door alittle afraid to scrape any on the side of door the window will not scrape clean evev useing a razor blade.

It sounds like it's not cleaning long enough-anything less then four hours just burns stuff on- or it's not getting hot enough. I would try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the splatter. It cleans burnt on stuff off mine great.

How do i lock the self cleaning ge oven door when i put it on self clean

If you have a self cleaning oven, the door will lock automatically as the self cleaning begins. Give it some time ,it will happen. When cleaning is done it will take a while for the door to unlock. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Hotpoint self cleaning oven won't heat

maybe a bad connection with the heating element. Check to make sure bottom element is pluged in all the way. May need to be replaced if anything looks strange (ie. burnt spot, hole, srrange color, or maybe no external sign)

How to self clean

Depending on the condition of the oven, it could take up to 4 hours.

A couple things to remember is: (1) Make sure you do not turn the light on inside the oven. The clean cycle should disable it. (2) Lock the door if it does not lock itself. (3) Do not open the door during the clean cycle.

Remember the self cleaning temperature is extremely high. Do not allow children in the area while doing it.

Old Amana - no manual; can't operate self clean feature

Can you locate the model number on the oven? Also any particular name of the stove? The manufactured year. These should all be available on a stainless steel or aluminum attached plate , probably on the back of the stove or inside the door.
I wouldn't try using the self cleaning feature until we get some advice. it could lock up on you and not UNLOCK. Normally self cleaning takes place at 600 or more degrees .

I'm sure others still have the same stove., I will see what I can find for you.

Self-cleaning gas oven

Door lock motor has probably failed.....Self clean on many
ovens can be a self destruct mode. Door latch motors, sensor
probes and even the electronic controls can be destroyed by
this operation. On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. remove the motor and unhook the rod from the motor cam. Sometimes bending a coat hangar into a hook and sliding from the right side into the lock you can unlock the door.

Look for a microswitch connected to the lock mechanism at the back of the stove. The switch is probably broken.
