Question about Black & Decker BDCH200 Ceramic Compact Heater
My heater was working a couple of days ago, now it will only stay on for a few minutes before the caution light comes on. It is plugged in, the filter in clean, and it is sitting on a flat surface.
There is a thermal fuse in this heater. A 133 deg. C fuse along with a bimetalic thermal cutout is attached to the top of the ceramic heater housing. This fuse is probably open, and is the most likely cause of your problem. This fuse is riveted in place, and is not easy to change.
Opening the heater case requires a special anti-tamper screwdriver. B&D don't want you inside this unit.

Use Torx T8 screw driver to get the special screws out and once inside find this thermal fuse and bypass it by soldering a piece of copper wire into each rivet. That thermal fuse is a safety feature that is a waste since there is a bi-metallic cutout that will trip the heater element out if the fan quits. Many small motors and appliances use these devices that fail and render the unit disposable and force you to buy a new one.
