Re: Lens will not retract.
Try taking some canned air and blowing around the lens while you turn it on and off. you might be able to free it up. your lens either has a broke gear or dust or dirt in between them. or you lens motor could have gone out or froze. a gentle tap on a flat surface lens down can sometime correct this. I repair these all the time sorry for your problem. Let me know if I can help you any further on this problem.

Everytime I try to turn it on, the lens comes out for about a second,
the camera beeps 3 times, the lens retracts and the camera shuts off.
The battery is completely charged and the camera is only 4 months old.
sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!
Unfortunately it required a new lens which the repairer could not supply due to its age. The repairer replaced the camera for the same cost with much more recent model! The repair cost was £70 plus postage. (This was 4 years ago now when a new camera would have cost over £199).
If its under warrantee use it - Sadly it might be cheaper at todays prices to replace it instead of have it fixed.
Mine got stuck with lens out. The batteries were new so I never imagined it could be the batteries, but they were cheap ones so I recharged a pair of good ones and once I put tried them on it worked just fine again. Conclusion, the "new" cheap batteries had only enough energy to turn it on and then they couldn't give it enough energy to make it work anymore and that's why I couldn't retract the lens or even turn it off properly. So in your case, try using a couple of good and new batteries.
If your lens is open and the camera turns off after those dreaded beeps, I have a fix for your problem. Basically, for this model of camera, the lens first pushes out a bit and then it retracts into the camera. Well, my lens got stuck on the pushout and it prevented the camera from turning on. I used some finger pressure and wiggled the lens a bit. Then I turned it on and it retracted to where is was supposed to be to take pictures. Then I turned it off and it retracted into the camera. Problem solved!
OMG! so i read all these suggestions and nothing worked or i was just confused..tried the tapping thing but didnt work..so i finally just kept twisting the lens and pushing it in and out..it doesnt really move but i was angry and hoping this was doing something..i turn my camera back on a IT WORKIN AGAIN:) im so happy becuz i was so pissed that i had to buy another camera but i suggest trying this method if the table tapping dont work..OH and my lens didnt look crooked at all so if urs look straight and stilling doing stupid beep thing ,,,try this!
