Need to reset acer aspire 1200 desktop

The Aspire One is a netbook produced by Acer; it does not come equipped with a CD ROM drive, so a traditional hard drive reformat and Windows reinstallation is not possible without a peripheral storage device. An external USB CD or flash drive will suffice, however.Difficulty:Moderate

Instructions

    • 1 Plug in the external CD drive, then turn on your netbook and let it boot to your operating system.
    • 2 Open your web browser and go to the BootDisk website (see link in Resources). Download the Windows XP Fresh Install Bootable CD, then burn these files to a blank CD via your external CD drive.
    • 3 Ensure the files have burned to your bootable CD, then restart the netbook with the CD still in the drive.
    • 4 The netbook should boot to the CD upon the restart. Follow the instructions prompted for installation. Upon completion you will have a clean installation of Windows XP on your Acer Aspire One.

My Acer Aspire has a black screen, does not boot up, does not beep, does not run post. Tried changing memory, tried a different harddrive, tried reinstalling the OS but does not read CD but CD drive lights...

Try a different power supply. Even though the CD drive lights up, it still needs to power your motherboard up which does not seem to be happening at all.

If the power supply doesn't solve it then the motherboard is bad.

One more thing: if you changed out the HD you probably did this, but make sure all the connections are tight. Take them out, plug them back in. Sometimes-- not very often-- this is the problem.

How to restore accer to factory settings

Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the computer.

To start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the netbook.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. In order to recover the system using Acer Recovery Media, an external optical disc drive is required.
  1. Restart the netbook.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F2 key repeatedly.
  3. Press the Left Arrow key until you've selected Boot.
  4. Ensure that the external optical drive is plugged into a USB port.
  5. Refer to on screen instructions to set the first device to USB CDROM.
  6. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
  7. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  8. Press the F10 key and then the Enter key to save the changes and restart the netbook.
  9. The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
  10. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first Recovery CD.

  11. After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media you may purchase recovery media online. If your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery please contact Acer Support

I just bought Acer Aspire Netbook, I have forgotten my password and cannot get into anything. What can I do??

If it is the logon-password for Windows, re-install the Operating System, and set a new password.

If it is the power-on password, find the original sales-receipt, and telephone ACER, to prove that you, and not a thief, is in possession of your computer, and ACER will assist you.

How to reset the bios on an acer aspire idea 510

Insert the original "System Restore" CD/DVD into the CD/DVD drive.
Restart the computer.
Press a key to "change boot order".
Choose to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
Does your computer start to read the disk, and start to load something?

If so, then there's _nothing_ wrong with your computer that _WOULD_ be corrected by doing a "reset" of the BIOS. Put differently, try a "reset" of the BIOS *ONLY* as the _LAST_ thing that you try.

It's more likely that your 'C:' drive has a problem that prevents Windows from loading.

Take your computer to a qualified technician, for more trouble-shooting.

Blue screen

Check booting in other computer, this will show if CD faulty. If not, CD drive may be faulty. If CD not faulty & can boot from USB drive you can copy CD to USB drive and install that way.

When I want to use an Ubuntu 8.04 live cd the screen stays black

U need to configure your computer to boot from the ubuntu cd inorder to use the live cd. For doing this you need to set your boot device priority with preference to cd drive as first boot device. You can get into the bios settings by typing delete, F2, F12 (this depends upon your motherboard model). Go through the options in the BIOS until you find an option to change the boot priority. After setting it, save and restart the system with the cd in the drive. Select the option in the cd as "Try ubuntu without changes to my computer". ENJOY :-) Don't forget to rate my solution. Setting up a new hard disk and operating system on an Acer Power SC

There should be more than one disk, as the other will be drivers, all you need to do is press F2 or Del to get into your pc's bios settings and change the first boot device to your cd drive, insert your acer disc into the drive, then save the bios settings, restart the pc ,then, when prompted on screen to press enter to boot from cd; do so.

You should then follow instructions to set up windows on the 'C' drive as is default and it may need to reformat in NTFS.
