Door Interlock switch Maytag MDB4100 dishwasher

The Door Interlock switch for my Maytag MDB4100 dishwasher seems to be intermittently turning off the dishwasher during it's cycle. A simple push at the top center on the outside of the door reconnects the switch and it will run for anywhere from 2-seconds to 2 minutes or even through the rest of the cycle. How do I fix it to make a permanent connection?

If the door is not latching well enough try adjusting the spring on the tub it's the male part that goes into the door latch. If that doesn't help you need to replace the latch. It's inside the door. The switch is mounted to the latch in the door so to get to it you have to remove all the screws around the outside edge of the inner door panel. Unhook power before replaceing latch or switch!

The unit does not run at certain times. If you push on door or move a little it seems to start but seems to get worse. Any clues. Its like some times it turn right on, other times it won't. Thanks Mike

sounds as if the door switch is bad. this switch is activated when you close the door and lock it. The way the switch works is there is a protrouding peice of metal out of the dishwasher at the top where the latch secures. This metal pushes a lever inside the door itself. If you look at the door at the top where the latch is there is a small hole. If you were to take a small screwdriver and push that tab in at the hole the dishwasher will activate with the dorr open If it doesn't the switch is bad or if you have to wiggle the screwdriver to get the dishwasher to turn on the switch is bad. REMEMBER if the switch is pushed in and the dishwasher turns on the water will spray up at you so make sure you shut yhr door as much as possible and only activate the machine to test the switch. Once you pull the screwdriver out the machine will diengage. If the switch is bad remove the front panel of the door and you will see the swtch. Take the machines model and serial numbers to an appliance repair shop for replacement

Good luck on your repairs hope this helped\

Dishwasher makes a grinding noise when you start it and when you open the door it appears as if the bottom arm is not spinning

if the motor is grinding and not washing the impeller may be broken or there is an obstruction you will have to remove the motor to check this if impeller faulty purchase new part and fit good luck

Power not coming on

When a dishwasher appears to be dead, many times the door latch is to blame. On some models, that latch has a safety interlock switch directly controls the power, so that when the door is opened during a wash cycle, power is removed.

The problem is that the interlock switch can fail or get un-aligned, so the dishwasher does not get power.

Depending on your skill level, you can investigate the problem, using a phillips screw driver to open up the latch so you can see the interlock.
Good Luck!

Door opens beyond position parellel to floor

Hi dougisommer

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: The door springs seem fine but when we open the door and wheel out the lower dish rack, the door drops further and the rack rolls down to the floor. Reading other postings, it seems like a good name for this is a broken "door catcher." How can I fix this?

You may need a sevice tech for this. The 'door catchers' on the sides of the unit can only be accessed after removing. Not a job for the inexperienced.
