Question about GE Dryers

Open Question

My dryer (model #DBVH512GF1WW)periodically makes a rythmic knocking sound as the drum turns when drying clothes. We had one repair person out to look at it but could not find anything wrong with it. He said that maybe the heat expands the drum during cold weather and creates the knock. It happened again on Monday. The outside temp was well into the 60's. What might couse this "loud" sound? One other comment is the front lower left corner below the front load door gets extremely hot during drying. Is this normal?

probably just the metal expanding as it gets hot or possibly a vane inside the drum gets loose after warming up,as for the over- heat issue, you probably need to dis-assemble the unit and clean out the lint from the exhaust piping from the blower to the outside venting exhaust,if theres a lot of lint inside the unit, you may also need to remove the drum and cleanout the lint by the heating element, this is easily done,by removing the top and front covers.then remove the drum belt, and remove the ground strap off the back outside of the unit, then remove the "E" clip thats there, then pull the drum forward toward the front opening to completely remove and carefully vacuum out all the unit because now you can access the motor also

All ge dryers have a center bearing on the back side of the drum and drum glides on the frontside. The glides make a scrubbing sound when bad and the drum is hard to turn. The rear bearing does a squeak thang when the plastic bearing wears thin and begins to make metal to metal contact between drum mount and rear bulkhead mount. It is an easy fix but the drum gotta come out. here is my pictorial page that shows how with videos and repair pix:
