I cannot install my dell A940 printer using the CD to my Toshiba with windows 7

Often, older printers do not have drivers for Windows 7. Mostly because the manufacturer decided that this printer is too old to develop new drivers. The only possible solution would be to use Windows Vista drivers. Vista drivers are similar to Windows 7 and have worked for me in the past.

Network x86 driver support on Vista 64 bit OS (Samsung Ml-2510)

That's right. You'll have to install the XP driver on an XP PC, and share it to the other XP machines that way, or Install the driver on each PC individually -you can't share a Vista driver with XP PC's.

Follow the instructions on the this page.

Printer Drivers for Vista are different than XP
For Vista you need Driver R153716.exe
and then you have a Patch R166244.zip
First you install the driver
then the patch

This is a wired printer, not a wireless printer, so it must be connected to the laptop.

  • There are up to three ways to set up your printer. You will need one of these three cables: USB, RJ-45, or parallel.

Next step

The cable you use connects to the computer

Next step

  • Turn your PC on, if it isn’t already.
  • Connect the cable you are using to the back of your computer or server here.

  • Next step

    3100_3_5.jpg
    • If the "Found New Hardware" wizard pops up on your screen, close it.

    Next step
    3100_3_6.jpg
    • Make sure paper is in the paper feed tray and the paper extender at the top is fully extended.

    Next step

    3100_3_7.jpg
    • Insert the software CD that came with your printer.

    Next step
    3100_3_8.jpg
    • The software should auto-run on your computer. If not, choose My Computer and navigate to the optical drive to start the software yourself.
    • Follow the instructions in the software and click OK and Next when prompted.

    Next step

    3100_3_9.jpg
    • Print a test page to see how your printer is doing.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Now please read this:

After everything above is done, MAKE SURE THE PRINTER IS ON!!!

If you are running XP or Vista

    Click Start
    Right click Computer
    Click Properties
    Click Device Manager
In the Device Manager make sure you do not see any yellow ! points

    Now in the Device Manager
click on Imaging Devices---do you see your printer; IT SHOULD SHOW THE PRINTER NAME

    Now click the Portable Devices
Do you see the printer ---- IT SHOULD SHOW THE PRINTER NAME

THIS MEANS THE DRIVERS LOADED ---NOW CLOSE THE DEVICE MANAGER

For all intense and purposes, if you loaded the right drivers, the printer should run fine.

One other thing you can do is run Windows updates to see if it sends you any updates for your printer----
    In XP click custom
In Vista it will automatically show you all the updates

Bought new Gateway tower with Vista and can't connect my X5150 all-in-one printer. Can you help?

    Hello brzmi

You can find Lexmark's support listing for you X5150 AIO (all-in-one) HERE.

And for Windows Vista specifically HERE.

It appears, however, that the drivers for this device are "bare bones". They only support printing for this AIO when it is installed on a Windows Vista system. Scanning w/ this device on Windows Vista is not supported.

If you would like to use the printing capability, then download the Vista drivers and install them.

Is that the difficulty you are experiencing? That you cannot use the device as you had on your pervious computer?

If you need a setup guide, you can find it HERE.

Keep in mind that the manual will describe features, etc. that will not be available to you w/ the device installed on a computer running Windows Vista.

If you still have a computer at home that is networked to your new computer *AND* that computer is running Windows XP.... then you can install the AIO on the older computer and "share" the AIO for your new one to use as well.

If that is an option for you, let us know and we'll step you through that process. You will only get the true AIO capabilities for this device on a system running Windows XP.

Please, let me know if I have answered your question. If I have not, or if you have other questions, please, post back here and let me know.

    Thank you
    BJ @:)

CAN NOT SCAN FROM PRINTER TO COMPUTER

New Computer is it? Vista- yes? Big troubles with drivers for scanners from vista. Scanners have a built in processor that runs all its operations on command from the computer. Vista is not speaking the same language the scanner wants to hear. Got onto HP tech support- I don't hold out much hope for you re this.

Did you make sure that you installed the latest driver from HP's web site for Vista? Some systems will grab the wrong driver if you let it do an automatic install.
