Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Neptune 2000 stackable washer. It seems that water is always remaining in the drum after a cycle, and water is sitting in the rubber gasket at the door. I am getting mold on the gasket and odor in the machine. Is this normal?

All washers still have some water in them at the end of the cycle. If you wipe the door boot down with a mild bleach and water solution this will keep it from getting mold. If you don't do a bleach load on a regular basis I would run a hot wash with 1/2 cup bleach and 1/2 cup powder cascade with no clothes once a month to keep the machine cleaned out. I also always leave my door unlatched when not in use.

My 10+ year old Maytag Neptune washer has standing water behind the drum after the spin cycle

Griffin is correct but, I took it one step further and removed the front cover and rubber gasket and used a long thin brush after spraying white vinegar with a spray bottle and cleaned all the **** from around the drum. I use white vinegar with clothes once in a while to keep the drum free of built up soap and softner. Its a little work but trust me when you see all the stuff on the drum you will understand why the machine stinks. I also leave my soap tray door open all the time to allow air inside.

Hi, We just moved into

On the bottom of the rubber seal, there is a drain hole. Check to see if it is clogged and clear it out if it has an obstruction.

WATER STANDING IN THE DRUM AFTER WASH CYCLE

can you see water in the tub, or do you hear water when you turn the tub? if you hear water when the tub turns, it is not water. the stainless drum has a liquid inside it for balancing loads. if this is the case, there is no problem. but if you see water in the tub that didnt drain, you need to check the pump and the hose from the pump to the outer tub. look for restrictions (coins, tooth pick, nail, ect.). also check the pump impellers to make sure none of them are broke, there are three plastic impellers. if any are broke, replace the pump. hope this helps you. let me know if you have any further questions. shane

Musty smell in washer and clothes.water remains in rubber gasket

Two thing that you might try: Add two or three cups of bleach and have the machine run a cycle (with no clothes!!!). Second, always leave the door open after use to let it air out. Also, it wouldn't hurt to use straight bleach as a wipe to the entire rubber tub seal.

Water remain in the machine

the washer has a fluid filled ring around the drum to balance it as it spins, assuming do not actually see or feel water you may be hearing that liquid.

Neptune stackable -water left below the drum after cycle complete

Some water yes. a lot of water no.As long as the water stays below the wash tub you should be OK.
You might want to pull your water pump off and check for a restriction.

Mildew buildup on rubber at door opening

Hello mamie7,
You are not alone with your problem on your front load washing machine..seems they all suffer from this phenomenon. because in order to keep the water from leaking out the fornt door.. it has to be water tight.. and because it is water tight, it is also air tight so any water left in the gasket for any length of time will develop mold and get mildew there.. There are a few solutions ( no pun intended) floating around but I subscribe to a few basics.. One being .. wipe the gasket after a wash cycle and leave the door open to air dry any moisture that remains. The problem with this is that some housholds have small children and the washer then becomes a danger to them... So.. you can do a periodic wash cycle using a product called AFRESH ( in tablet form and sold at home depot etc) or you can try this product at http://www.smellywasher.com/ . Good luck.. hope this helps you..
