Sony Hi8 CCD-TRV138 Camcorder Logo
Posted on Apr 23, 2008

Sony Hi8 Our old Sony Handycam CCD-F77began to produce static looking white lines across the middle to bottom of screen during recording. We eventually bought a new one, but now I am trying to transfer the Hi8 to DVD. Is there any way to take that white line out? I have seen others doing that on some of America's Funniest Videos so I know it wasn't only my camera. Thanks, Teri

If you see the line while in the camera mode (actually recording a scene), then the line will be on the recording most likely. Check your tape for damage by lifting open the front of the cassette (tab on left side of tape), pull tab back while opening cover and inspect for creases or damage. Either of these cases will be non-repairable (bad recording). If the tape path is out of line the then it may be possible to have a tech realign the tape path to correct problem.

Recorder

I also have a SONY 460x Handycam Vision CCD-TRV68 NTSC video Hi8 Steady Shot not able to record a picture but will record audio, playback is the same. Unfortunatly this occured after warranty was out. Seems like this might have been a manufactors defect.

Playback static

Your video heads are probably dirty. I have the same problem with mine too. If you buy a 8mm video cassette cleaner, it should work. Unless there is some other problem.

Play back problem

Your camera playback heads appear to be dirty. You can purchase a head cleaner cassette from an electronics store or take it to a service centre where they will clean the heads.

Check that the tape itself is not damaged, as this can cause the same symptoms.

Hello, your camcorder is from 1998 or 1999. Yes it is fixable. Please ask for the price estimate from the technician with best references. If you need more info please advice.
