Hi jo

after the formatting process i guess you reinstall the operating system.

1. if your ethernet card is located directly on the motherboard, all you need to do is to run the motherboard driver on your system.it will install/activate all available resources on the motherboard and that includes the ethernet adapter.

2.if your card is not mounted direcly to the motherboard, connect your ethernet card on the pci slot of your motherboard and make sure the system detect it and then install any driver that come with it.

it could be that the ethernet port has gone bad, in that case install a pci ethernet card. check if an antivirus is blocking the internet. last resort = format the computer, any operating system related problems should be solved then.

I cannot get internet.th pc sais there is no cable, but it is.what can i do. i even bought a new card ethernet and he sais the same thing.

you will have to open up your network connections click start control panel network connections this may vary depending on your operating system look for local area connection if you see a red x or a yellow exclamation or question mark ! ? you will need to update or install the driver or it could be firewalled
If you are trying to connect through a modem/router you it should have come with a disk then
you might have to connect the usb lead to your modem to get a connection then
click start control panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll to network adapters should see a yellow question mark? right click install drivers
the driver might be on the disc supplied by your ISP internet service provider
or the motherboard disc
hope this helps or you could download one
cnetdownload.com on the homepage you will see a search bar type in the ethernet controller freeware you want/need

Im am trying to connect my cox cable box to my LG computer monitor and if i try and input the screen just goes black

You can't directly connect any cable connections to a computer monitor. You will either have to connect the cable box to a network router or to your computer tower via stantard Ethernet cables if this is for Internet usage.
If you are trying to connect this for viewing "Cable/TV" content, then you would have to have some kind of TV card installed and connect the coax/antenna cable to that connection.

How can i connect a toshiba runniung windows me. to the internet via ethernet cable? is it possible with just the cable and no card? is there a programe i can download to help my laptop? what can i do?

Hi,
It should have a LAN (network card) built in to the laptop.
First of all make sure you have the LAN (network drivers) installed. You can do this by checking in device manager.
To open device manager click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the System icon. Click the Device Manager tab and look in the list for network adapters/controllers.

If the driver is installed you should be able to directly connect the ethernet cable to your laptop.

I'm not quite sure where the ethernet port is on that particular laptop but it will be on the back or sides of the unit and it will be the only port the ethernet cable fits into.

From there you should be good to go, if you can't get a connection reset the modem by removing power from it for 2 minutes, connect the power again, wait another 2 minutes for the device to settle and try the internet connection again.

Regards.

Get internet started

Go to the control panel to network connections and see if your modem is present. If it is select disable and then enable. When you go back to the home screen your internet explorer should connect to the internet.
If your modem isn't in the Network connections, I usually install a ethernet card and once on the internet I find the driver at the company internet site for the built in ethernet and install that one. I should have clarified but, I hope this helps. I'll check back to see if you post more info.

Network Card

Yes the network card is the same ethernet card. If your intel pro/100 is onboard try to re install the driver from the motherboard drvier. Check also in the manager device it the network device have a complex to the other device. Follow this, Click START then RUN type DEVMMGMT.MSC then enter check if the network adapter have a yellow question mark. If you found the network adapter right click and uninstall it.and click the ACTION and click SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. After the installation finished try to connect to the internet. If still the same even you input the correct ip in the network configuration. Buy a new LAN card it's not expensive, because usually the onboard lan is easy to damage or not working properly you can installed and configured it but you cannot connect to the internet.
