Question about APC Smart-UPS UPS System

1 Answer

Battery replacement I am replacing batteries in an APC Smart UPS 2000 RM system and managed to forget to take a picture of the wiring before swapping the batteries, so I am lost on two of the connections. Where could I find this?

Here is what is wired so far. Not sure of yellow in middle.

    Here is another shot.

Pictures look like they truncated right side of setup. Let me know if you need an additional picture.

My dilema. See the fuse block at top. If I just attach black wire to red and black battery post, I isolate from fuses (bad karma). I have one more yellow wire, but if I just put it between red and black battery post, no juice flows to fuse posts. Could the deal be to take one black to a black post, then a yellow from red to left side of fuse block and other black to other side of fuse block? If so, which (red or black) would left black wire go to?

That is why I am searching for a photo/schematic for this old ups. If I reverse poles then when it goes to plug in to charge component of UPS (where the heavy black cables plug into....well it wouldnt be pretty.

I am pretty sure that the circuit has to go thru the fuse, so if you could check with your friend, that would make all the difference to me.

Make sure you see the + and - sign while you connect the batteries
+ is RED - is Black

so connect one red cable to the battery then attach a single cable from + to - for a loop then connect the black cable to - negative.

    Dont forget to rate Fixya.

The battery connection looks perfect. you have four batteries and at one end it has a small yellow cable which is connecting both the 2 inch yellow wire and i dont see the other two batteries on the right hand side clearly make sure u have the same 2inch yellow cable connecting two batteries
    Then
You have two black ups wire which needs to be connected to the batteries YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE BLACK WIRE PLUS + CONNECTS TO THE RED CONNECTOR ON THE BATTERY WHICH IS IN THE MIDDLE AND THE OTHER BLACK WHICH SHOULD NEGATIVE - SHOULD CONNECT THE BLACK CONNECTOR ON THE BATTERY.

BATTERY CONNECTION IS PERFECTLY FINE ALL YOU NEED TO CHECK IS THE TWO BLACK WIRE ONE SHOULD INDICATE PLUS + THE OTHER SHOULD BE NEGATIVE ----

THE PLUS + INDICATED WIRE WILL CONNECT THE RED PORT OF THE BATTERY

AND THE NEGATIVE --- INDICATED WIRE WILL CONNECT THE BLACK PORT OF THE BATTERY.
GO AHEAD AND DO IT. DONT BE AFRAID.

Connect the battery leads to the new battery. Connect the red
wire to the positive (+) terminal and the black wire to the
    negative (–) terminal

Left black wire should go to the left black terminal and the right black wire should go to the right red terminal thats how the connection should be and in case you still have any doubt you have to gime a day my friend has the same ups and i can go and check the connection myself and will revert back to you.

Overload problem

Hi Javier,

Is there a printer plugged into the UPS? If so, unplug it and plug it directly into a building outlet.

If not, you have to load manage what you can load the UPS with... remember it's only rated for 1000VA. Go here (http://www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/) to get a better idea of what you need.

My ups does not give enough back up and the others are not powering

It is usually a battery problem. It is not charging anymore. The battery is the power source for your UPS once the AC source is cut off.Open the unit and there you could locate the battery enclosed inside the UPS box unit.Replace it with the same type and size of battery, observe polarity where the red is (+) positive and black is negative (-).Depending on what the manufacturer used for the color coding but still see where the Positive and Negative wires are connected to.But before you open the unit remember to unplug the unit from the power outlet.

APC Smart-UPS 1000VA UPS System calibation problem

If battery charge indicator is flashing it should be UPS calibration issue, If all the LED indicator is light up in the front panel and UPS still can go online on battery mode you just need to replace the board on the front panel and the light will just back to normal state.

APC Smart UPS 1500 will not start.

It could be that the cable to the front-panel got damaged during the battery replacement.  After all these years you would think APC would improve that aspect of their design.  All I can suggest is inspecting the cable and where it connects to the front panel.
