Seeking help for CMOS setup for Asus P4SGX-MX motherboard

Hi…I am in problem with my P4SGX-MX. The problem is when I turn off the CPU a little movement/vibration to the CPU(casing) causes resetting of CMOS setup. I observed if there is no disturbance to the CPU the CMOS setup retains and there is no problem. I do not think so a disturbance like some movement/vibration to the CPU(casing) will cause the loss of COMS setting. It should be noted that in BIOS setup program I found that there is no “Reset Configuration Data” option as described in the manual of P4SGX-MX (page 59, 2-27)of the ‘Boot Menu’. I thought updating the BIOS may repair this option. I updated the BIOS using EZ flash utility but still there is no “Reset Configuration Data” option in the Boot Menu of BIOS setup program. Only one option missing in (my P4SGX-MX) BIOS setup program and it is “Reset Configuration Data” option in the Boot Menu. So, what may be the problem of my P4SGX-MX. and how can I get rid of it.? Help please.Engrju,Bangladesh.E-mail: engrju@yahoo.com

I think this is not a CMOS battery problem, rather may be some CMOS linked Capacitor/CMOS chip/BIOS chip/ BIOS program problem. I mentioned in my post about a missing option in the BIOS boot menu wich is related to ESCD(exrended system configuration data). BIOS update using Aflash utility may repair this option and if this option is repaired the problem may be solved. Now help me how I can repair the BIOS program?

I just bought this device and I am facing frequent disconnection from the internet provider TE Data in Egypt, working on PPPOE, VPI/VCI 0/35, and Encapsulation LLC. all other router settings are left to the default..contracted speed is 8 MB/s

Almost every couple of days I have to reset the modem to re-establish the connection.

I thought first that I need to ensure that I am on the latest firmware.. which I could not find on the net, neither on USR website, nor when I contacted USR support.. can someone send me the latest firmware for this device.

Also please advise if there is a configuration parameter to setup to avoid this frequent disconnection problem..

    Thank you.

Hi can anyone tell me what type of RAM is used in the Asus P4SGX-MX Motherboard please. Chris.

Your motherboard has 2 (DDR) and 2 (SDRAM) slots. DDR and SDRAM memory modules cannot be used simultaneously, and the maximum capacity is 2GB of RAM. So you can put in either DDR or SDRAM modules.

Unless Asus have an updated BIOS for this motherboard and lists it as compatible then it probably won't work.

The Prescott CPU's (ones with 1MB cache) can use more power so if your motherboard doesn't list it as being supported it will not provide enough power and won't boot or could have problems with crashing even if it does boot.

The older Northwood CPU's used less power btw.
