The Resolution can be changed in Windows XP by minimizing all applications, right clicking on the desktop, selecting Properties. In the Display Settings window go to the Settings tab. Here you can change the resolution. I think you are wanting to use a widescreen setup so going for a resolution of 1280x800 should fill your screen. Play around with the available settings to resize the screen.

If you are using MS Vista, you need to minimize all applications to the desktop, right click, select Personalize. In the Personalize Window click on Display Settings down the bottom, modify the resolution as appropriate.

Alternatively, you may be able to find the function key that did this to your resolution. Above your F1-F12 keys there should be a little picture. If you click on the [fn] key (near the Windows key) as well as one of the F1-F12 keys you can cause different functions to be performed. This may be how the resolution changed initially.

Good luck

First I will suggest you to restart your computer and then press and hold F8 keys until you get Advanced Options menu screen.Use the arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, and then press Enter, your computer will boot automatically to safe mode.
After that Update your graphic drivers Because in mostly cases display problem due to your drivers . so go the site of your Laptop manufacture. Once there enter the model number of laptop then request driver (usually found in the web site's "Support Section"). There you should be able to find all the drivers for your model laptop
If this didn't help you then simply get the Intel software partner Reginout to fix all the errors and registry issues which causing this annoying problem
Hopefully it will help you

I have a Acer Aspire laptop 4810T. It turns on perfectly fine and everything shows up on the screen but it's so hard to see. The the screen almost appears to be black.

Press Fn key (at bottom left of keyboard) and while holding it down, press F6 key (at top center of keyboard). This should turn on the display screen backlight which had been turned of to save power.

I have hp dv6500 i update my bios and my display is total black just light blinking pls help me wht i do ?

This could be due to hardware malfunction of the video card on the notebook. To isolate this, perform the following steps.
*** Hard Reset ***
To perform a hard reset, please follow the steps listed below:

1. Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station.
2. Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
3. Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.
4. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.
5. Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.
After performing the above step, if the issue persists, then connect an external monitor to the notebook and check if the display comes on external monitor or not.
*** External Monitor ***
1. Turn off the notebook.
2. Connect the monitor cable from the external monitor to the monitor port on the rear/side of the computer.
3. Connect the monitor to a power source and turn it on.
4. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

At this time, please follow the instructions mentioned below for switching the display to the external monitor:

The notebook's video card supports three modes. Built-in screen only; external video only; and both on simultaneously (mirrored). If you're not seeing the image on the desired device(s), the notebook's video card is probably in another mode. Press FN + F4 to cycle through the display options: Notebook display, External monitor, both.

If you press FN + F4 once, the external monitor will display & there will be no Notebook LCD display.
If you press FN + F4 twice, the external monitor will display & there will be some shading on the Notebook LCD.
If you press FN + F4 thrice, both Notebook LCD & external monitor will display.

If the issue persists on the external monitor, then this could be due to defective video card on the notebook. However, if the display on the external monitor is fine, then the issue is with the LCD display panel of the notebook. In either cases, the notebook requires a detailed onsite diagnosis by a service technician.

LCD screen partially display's

This kind of issue is usually due to a loose inverter cable, re-seating the cable is a relatively simple matter.
If the laptop is still under warranty you should contact Dell to have it repaired, if on the other hand it is out of warranty you should shop around for a repair quote unless you are absolutely confident you can strip and reassemble your laptop.
