Printer sat unused for one year while my husband and I were both away on military duty. Returned to find that despite replacing all of the ink cartridges the black ink will not work. I performed self cleaning function but no luck.

Midway between the two holes that plug into the printer, there's an opening. evidently, the printer senses ink level thru the little piece of plastic.

with printer OFF, take all ink cartridges out. cut small pieces of duct tape, small enough to cover the hole but not pass the catridge edge. use a small screwdriver or tip of a knife blade to work the edges of the tape into the slot, covering the little plastic window.

insert back into printer. worked for me. it's simpler than it sounds.

Brother mfc-495cw left idle for a long time. now won't print

Please notice that you will destroy the C/Y/M part of the print head because the ph needs the ink to prevent a dryout!!!

Simply stick some adhesive tape around the window in the middle between the ink-outlet and the valve. The flag inside signals the printer the ink level.Still having Problem Then follow Us For

Check ink cartridge on right

Yes - if they are not used they will dry up and be unusable.
Unfortunate but you need to replace them.
For future ref - IF they will not be used in 4 - 6 months
pop them out and put scotch tape on the head where ink comes out
and that should keep them good for several months..
I have done that and close to a year later - was fine.
Hope this helps :)

Why are pictures are coming out pink

Usually, if the colors are off when you're printing, it just means you're running low on ink, or your ink has sat unused for too long. Either refill or replace your ink cartridges, and your print outs should be their proper colors again.

My printer sat for anout a year. Turned it on and it said supply expired. replaced the ink. Removed the battery and put it back. That message went away. Now it says close print door. It is closed. ...

Hmmm, how long did you leave the battery out. One time I had to leave it out about 1 hour. That worked for me.

Worth a shot, also check to make sure that the carriage is in it's proper place. Open the maint. door like you are going to change the ink, check to make sure all seated properly, close cover and see if error goes away. Also try unpluggin from power and plug back in.

Good luck!

I bought an Inkjet 2800 on ebay which had almost never been used ,it still had the original ink cartridges in which were full. The printer was idle for 3 years and now I can`t get a decent print, All the...

Inkjet printers do not like being unused, especially for years. The print head nozzles get clogged with dried ink when they are unused and even when you insert new ink cartridges the inks won't flow through the nozzles properly. The solution is to replace the print head.

I have an HP Deskjet D4260 printer that is not used very often. When replacing the ink, I found a pool of ink where the cartridge should be. After a while, it disappeared. Is there a problem with the...

Its just a natural thing as its been stood. The reason your ink ran out of the last cartridges is because it leaked out.

I wouldnt worry about it too much.

I have an HP T45 that won't print, even with a new cartridge. Any ideas. BTW it has been sitting unused for sveral years.

Inkjet printers that have sat on the shelf for a while usually have dried up ink that is blocking your new ink from coming out.

Take it to a professional for an estimate, but I think you'll find the cost of a new printer to be a better deal in this case.

Good luck! Sorry the news isn't better!
