I have a brand new laptop with an 8 hour battery that only last 3-4 hours. What all do I need to turn off?

Thank you for choosing FixYa!

Regarding this concern of yours with your battery, I would like you to understand that the 8hr time frame is basically the stand-by time for your computer turned ON but doing nothing. Now, if you base the battery's performance while you're using the machine, it can only run at most 4-6 hours depending on the application you are using, the resources that the application utilizes, and the running application required by the computer to run. It means that you really won't be able to max out your battery's 8hr capacity if you're using the computer on a regular basis.

The best practice though, is that you keep the battery reach at least 1% of power before charging the laptop to maintain and lengthen the battery's life.

Have a good one still. Take care!

How do I remove brakes from an 99 alert car

Hi,
Every type of brake assembly can differ slightly. Your best approach will be to beg, borrow or steal a copy of Haynes. If all else fails, buy one!

My celeron 2.8 ghz 448mb ram is too slow, why?

Not enough memory.

Slow Windows Machine! Sounds like not enough resources such as RAM and CPU. Check Performance in Task-Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE). High CPU levels causes hang ups like freezing. Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate. Consider increasing RAM. Uninstall any extras like those pushy toolbars, and add-ons.

My caR won't turn over but all lights and everything turn on. There is a red light that comes on when turning the key in the fuel area but I have plenty gas

That light is telling you that the fuel system has been disabled. The computer "thinks" that someone is stealing your car. This is caused either by someone trying to steal your car or more often, a malfunction in the onboard security system.

Low speed working

If you would like to take a drastic measure to fix this problem, just take everything you have on your computer that you want to keep and save it. Burn it onto a CDR, DVD or put it on an external device such as an external hardrive or a memory stick. Make sure you have all the dics that came with your computer. Such as the Operating system CD and the CD which contains your drivers. I believe that disc is called the Dimension Resource CD. Then wipe you hardrive clean. I used a program called D-ban to do this on my computer. It was free and I found it on the internet at http://www.dban.org/ Now that your hardrive is clean and you saved the stuff you wanted to keep, just reload windows by placing the operating system CD into your cd drive and reboot your computer. When the first window opens hit your F12 key then boot from the CD drive. Folow the onscreen directions and this will reload your operating system. Then install all the drivers from the Dell dimension resource CD. WOW!! Now your computer will run like it is brand new. It will seem like you just bought it new. I have done this several times to my computer. It is a little time consuming but it works like a charm. It will also remove a computer virus if you have one.

Other than the solution above I have used the restore points on my computer. If you have set a restore point on your PC from an earlier date you can go back have all the settings changed to that date. Here is a link to information on how to do a system restore. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/computeractive/q-and-a/2230699/pc-help-system-restore This is easy to do. Good luck with eveything.
