Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a ASUS notebook and recently bought a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate. However, nobody has noticed me of the thirty day activation period and when it expired, the computer asks for the installation password. When I typed it in, the system said that the password is correct but is of a different version and therefore is incorrect. Now, the computer is locked up. The thing is, I want to re-install using my copy of XP which I am sure that works but cannot re-enter using SafeMode or MS-DOS. Any help or suggestions will be grateful and much appreciated

Upgrade Windows 7 Starter to Ultimate

You should have a certificate of authenticity with your copy of ultimate. If you don't have a genuine copy, the best advice would be; not to try upgrading. It may work for a while but you will have to activate the updated installation at some point and microsoft will probably recognise that it's a non genuine copy. You will then start to have problems with updates, slow running etc.

My windows 7 ultimate is no genuine.... what can i do for that recovery....

To fully fix this problem you will need to register it with a valid vista product key.

If you bought this desktop from a store then you need to take it back and have them fix the problem. Or you have all right to report them for selling you a computer with a illegal copy of vista.

If you bought it from an individual, then you need to inform them of the problem and see what they have to say. Again you have all right to report them to.

Click here to report piracy to Microsoft or the FBI

You can look on the back of the PC case (Tower) and see if there's a product key sticker. If there is try using the key to register your copy of windows. If that doesn't correct the problem, and you can't contact the place you bought this desktop. Then you will have to purchase a product key from microsoft.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, thank you for choosing Fixya.

Windows Vista Bootup problems

Did you (sorry for the underline....not sure how it got here) call Microsoft to have them give you another product key? This is the new procedure now. If you do a reinstall with your Windows Operating System, you have to call in to receive a new product key. This should fix it.

Good luck!

Every time i restart my computer on the black boot screen it gives me an option to start windows vista or enter windows vista setup i recently tried to upgrade to vista ultimate and it didnt work now its...

Do you have any important files that you want to keep?

If so, when the boot screen comes up, select to start windows vista and press F8. choose "Safe Mode". copy all of your files to a flash drive or burn them to a disk.

If not, insert your vista DVD and have your BIOS boot from it.
then it will ask you to do an upgrade or clean install; do a clean install.

Do not interrupt the installation until it finishes.
If you made any backups, now is the time to copy them to your computer.

Demo problem

Vista is a very demanding OS. Either buy a license or U will have to format UR drive to put XP back on. Vista is NOT an upgrade, it is a 64 bit OS. XP is a 32 bit OS. Like U, I like XP. Been down this road.
