Question about Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

I Have a Brother MFC-640CW all-in-one Inkjet Printer. I changed the ink cartridges and I can get them all working except the yellow, when I do a Test print all the other colors come out perfect except for the yellow. I have tried another cartridge and still the yellow won't come through. I can print in black no worries if the material I'm trying to copy has blue or pink on it it will print fine it is only the yellow that I'm having the trouble with. Any suggestions on how to fix problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Denise

I have a Brother MFC-5460CN Printer. Some short time after replacing the Magenta cartridge, it stopped printing Magenta only. I attempted to use the special cleaning and power purge techniques posted by Mix-it-up using the maintenance mode, and they engaged as stated, but the Magenta still will not print. Is there a way to purge and clean the Magenta line only? Thanks, Jerry

But the directions you give don;t nake sense.
If I press menu, pressing start Bk Copy and press arrow up go's to Photocapture.
Also in none of the menu seems to be an option 7 except 2 that seem to have no bearing on what we are trying to fix.
So I am missing something inyour instructions, which seem pretty clear. Ttried it when copy and fax mode default startup. I now have 2 out of my 3 640cw doing the same thing 6 mths apart
    Yours Steve

Press menu then start bk copy then fourtimes arrow-up quickly after another. machine will be in maintenance mode (all lights will flash).
press 7-6-4 and OK (or start-bk-copy).

Machine will do some refreshing of ink and some special cleaning.

When finished press 7-6-3 start-bk copy
machine will do a power purge.

leave maintenance mode by pressing 9-9.

do run a test print.

DO USE ORIGINAL BROTHER INK or skyhorse generic ink only due to the fact that other generic ink will defenetly do damage to the printer!

Tip

How to change an ink cartridge on the Brother MFC-240C

The Brother MFC-240C uses an individual cartridge for each color (black, yellow, cyan, and magenta). When one of the colors is out of ink, the printer will tell you to replace the ink cartridge. To replace a cartridge, follow the steps below.

All four cartridges are located on the right front side of the printer, behind a cover. Pull the cover forward from the side, where there is a slight cutout for you to grab. When the cover falls forward, you'll see the ink cartridge holders.

For whichever ink cartridge you are replacing, push down on the purple handle for that color. The ink cartridge holder will open and fall forward, revealing the ink cartridge itself. Push down on the cartridge holder and the cartridge should pop toward you a little bit. Grasp the cartridge and remove it.

Open the new cartridge and remove it from its wrapper. Discard the yellow cover, unless you plan to use it for the old cartridge.

Insert the new cartridge into the correct slot (from left to right: black, yellow, cyan, magenta) so that the word "brother" is right-side up and located toward the top of the cartridge. Once it is most of the way in, push the ink cartridge holder up by the purple handle until it snaps into place. Then close the ink cartridge cover.

If you were out of ink, the machine should recognize the new cartridge and perform its calibration. If it doesn't automatically recognize it, it will ask if you have changed one or more of the cartridges. Press "1" for Yes.

Once you have printed a test page with all four colors to verify that everything is working, either discard the old cartridge in the trash or save it to recycle. But don't get rid of it until you are sure the new cartridge is recognized and working.

Brother MFC-640CW All-In-One yellow not printing

if your print head is removable (the thing your ink cartridge clips into) remove it and clean it out with asorbic alcohol on both the print face and the ink inlet area- If your yellow has been empty for a while before you bought a new cartridge, it is possible that ink has dried in the ink channels of the print head and this is almost impossible to repair and you would be better off buying a new print head- Also if you have a fairly new printer you can contact the manufacturer about your issue and they may or may not send you one for free- My KodaK AIO had the same issue and Kodak replaced the print head for free all I had to do was take the time to call them

Keeps saying insert ink cartridge but is in there

Just unplug the machine and plug back in while holding the stop key, usually clears that error. Make sure there is ink in the cartridge first.

MFC-420CN does not print black

My yellow cartridge was doing the same thing as your black. So I took the cartridge out, and took a flashlight to see how it works. There is like a little straw on the right hand side which goes up into the printer cartridge, this I assume is to measure the ink. I took a needle and cleaned that 'straw' thoroughly. Reseated the ink, ran cleaning and test print, and then the printer found the yellow ink! You could give that a try. It might work for you too. (I have never used any ink but Brother ink in the printer, btw.)

MFC 640CW not refilling with new ink cart.

Unplug printer from power. Wait a minute. Take all carts out. Plug machine to power. mfc demands carts. Reinsert carts (have a look if they all filled with ink!!). If asked press 2 (No change) despite you use a new cart press 1 Yes cart changed.

Should work!

Brother MFC-640CW Replaced Black catridge becomes empty

Compatible carts do make a lot of trouble. One point is the draining! The ink has flown into the cart assy and beyond that to the bottom of the printer. As long as you can print without problems you dont have to do anything. If the test pages wont show the correct color you have to open the printer and to clean the assy and the bottom.

Do use original ink carts though these wont drain and give correct info to printer. You can very simple refill them with dye ink. Dye ink only!!!
