Can you see DVD-RW drives indicator busy when you insert that disk for a long time? if so, your drive may not going to read that disk. If it is in case of CD disk, sometimes DVD-RW just can't read it while very old CD-ROM can read! If this happens in case of other CD/DVD witch is readable by other DVD-RW, You may just try to clean the lens of your drive.
If these drives are IDE deives then check the jumper settings on these drives. The jumper setting for master (MA) and Slave (SL) If one of these drives is on the same data cable as the hard drive the the jumper setting for this drive MUST be set to Slave (SL) because the hard drive will be jumpered as Master (MA). If both of the drives are on the same data cable and the data cable is plugged into the second IDE controller then one of the drives MUST be jumpered as Master drive and the other as Slave drive.
If the drive is trashed, just force the drawer open. If you don't want to do that, you should be able to disassemble the drive enough to get the disk out by removing screws... Sometimes the screws are underneath stickers, or warranty stickers, etc etc.
You will have to install the drivers that came with the drive. If you don't have the CD that came with it to install the drivers, you will have to search the Toshiba site for the specific model number of the drive. You should be able to download and install the drivers from their website. Hope this helps.
if you put it on the same ide ribbon as another drive then youll need to set 1 as master and 1 as slave, theres a jumper setting on the back of your drive. on the top of your drive it should tell you were master is and were slave is, youll need to pull the little black plug out (jumper) and move it to where you want it to be, i.e master or slave
