If you properly set the jumper and XP does not see the drive make sure all connections to the drive are "in" as tight as they go, if windows stiull does not see the drive, then the drive is 93% positively BAD! Get another hard drive. Windows 98se has NO drivers included, or written in the aftermarket for hard drives of this size. You will need to install a dynamic disc overlay (DDO) to tell a lie to CMOS thyat the drive is below 32 GB, when this utility loads as it must each time the machine boots, CMOS will see the small drive it expects to see, yet inside windows you will have access to the drives full space. Do NOT "tweak' the HD parameters...cylinders, sectors, etc...this will make the drive unmanageable. It would once again "disappear".
Your only other option would be to upgrade your BIOS by flashing it, so it would recognize the new drive. IF that BIOS flash included the recognition of Hard drives over 32 GB, the former barrier before 133GB.

Smart failure predicted on my hard disk

Hopefully the warning was overly cautious, and you are still interested in an answer.

When SMART warns of failure, it is time to stop trusting that drive and get a new one. Even though you might be owed another under warrantee, it is a Good Idea™ to have a spare. You need to get as much as you can off of the failing drive and transfer it. A disk cloning utility like Norton Ghost or Partition Magic will give you a perfect copy of what you currently have, but many people prefer to back up only the documents and settings and then install the system and application software fresh.

Ive got some bad sectors on my mk8034gsx is there anything out there that can fix them for me please thank you

Go to this site, and they will explain the first thing to try to fix your bad sectors (using Windows utilities):
http://www.ehow.com/how_113636_fix-sectors-hardfix-sectors-hard.html
If this doesn't solve your problem, you might try this program (I read where it really helped some):
http://hddguru.com/
Back up your important files before you fix your sectors, just in case there are problems. You don't want to lose your important files.
There are many third party programs out there to help with this problem, and they are reported to be better than the Windows utilities, however the Windows programs are free, and might help.
If you don't have any success with the Windows programs, Google "Fix Bad Sectors", and you will find many programs and articles that talk about this.
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps.
